I'm no longer posting an episode of Blood on the Moon and I'm feeling a little... lost.

All good things must come to an end - of course I know this.

So I've decided to not only remind myself about the characters, but I figured I'd give you something to sink your teeth into too.

This is the third of the characters in my Wolf series – Darius

He’s the baddest of the bad. The one they all look to whenever there’s something that’s gone - wrong, missing or off the rails.

He has a chip on his shoulder that he’s been carrying for at least half a millennium and his hatred has focussed on Red for most of that time – ever since he first met her, if truth be told.

Darius is a powerful and Ancient Wolf but it’s not enough. He wants more of everything and he’ll stop at nothing in order to achieve his aims.

I’ve not decided if Darius is bitten or pure blood and I’m not sure if it will ever be known. I’m not even sure it’s important… yet.

Darius has manipulated embers of the Royal Bloodline, experimenting on at least one. He has deliberately concealed important facts in order to blackmail members of the Royal Bloodline and he manufactures narcotics with the sole purpose of dealing them to Humes – not for monetary gain (although it is a bonus) but for enhancing the taste of their blood for the purpose of the Wolves to feed on.

Darius was once the mentor of Luke – Red’s husband and there’s a tale to tell there, too.

I haven’t decided exactly how old Darius is – I’m not sure I want to know – maybe we’ll find out one day…

Darius enjoys walks in the woods, moonlit dates and fireside chats with the girl of his dreams.

Unfortunately, though he’d never admit it, not even to himself, I strongly suspect the girl of his dreams is married to another Wolf and even if she wasn’t married, she’d rather tear out his spleen than go on a date with him.

Darius knows how to appeal to the baser instincts of Wolf and man and he makes sure he has the upper hand in any negotiations because of that knowledge. He uses people and Wolves to further his own ends and though they may see what he’s up to, somehow, they always believe they’ll be the one to turn the tables on him, or that he’d never do anything like that to them, they’re too valuable to him…

He took a massive defeat in the last book in the series and I’m contemplating on how he can recover from that hit – of course he will, it’s just a matter of time – but how he manages it and when, I don’t quite have in my mind yet.

I have based Darius’ character on an amalgamation of many nasty, horrible, sly, devious, insidious people I’ve known and yet, Darius is still the No1 bad-lad, the one my readers love to read about, just to see what nasty shit he comes up with next.

I have one actor in mind when I ‘see’ Darius – Wes Bentley (as played in Ghostrider, not Hunger Games). Sometimes it helps to have a look of a person when I’m writing about him/her.

I see Darius as dark haired, dark eyed - a black Wolf when he transforms.

If Darius put his mind to it, I’m pretty sure he could be a great ally to the Lycaeon, but he does seem to have a problem with strong women, and especially women in a position of power. Perhaps that’s why he’s at odds with Red?

Also, he sees Humes as nothing much more than cattle for his own amusement. He takes Humes as slaves and because he allows them to see his great and terrifying power, they are in awe of him and of course, want some of that, if you please!

Darius keeps trying to build armies of Humes and uses his narcotics to build them up to be externally powerful (for a short time).

Whereas Wolves that are Ancient are powerful at all times, without the use of the hormones and narcotics, if only the Whelps could gain the upper hand (claw) and deliver Darius to the position of power he’s craved for so long…

Now there’s another sub-plot in the making if ever I saw one.

Tomorrow I’ll explain the differences in the three main bloodlines (Throwbacks being the fourth).

Sort:

I don't like Darius (I was going to name my son Darius...), but I think the "keep your friends close, keep your enemies closer" maxim definitely applies to him, someone to keep onside.
Will we get to know how "Lickspittle"... Entwistle became Wolf? Or have you already written his intro and I missed it? 🤔

Wow! Thank you for that idea!

I'll have to give the stories of how all the wolves were created... that should give me material for about a hundred years ;)

Awww!
Even though i didn't start blood on the moon from the beginning, the little i could read made much sense to me. Didn't know it will come to an end so soon.
Darius was a good character!

You can still go and read it all... it's there on the blockchain :)

Thank you for introducing your characters.

I’ve not decided if Darius is bitten or pure blood and I’m not sure if it will ever be known. I’m not even sure it’s important… yet.

I think that bitten is better because he is very ambitious for everything and this is human behavior.

Also, you could think that Darius is 25 years old. He is inexperienced and hasty.

Good chose for the actor but He is a bit old I think.

I am waiting for other characters.

Could he have learned the behaviour from humans?

Oh he's more than 20 times that age. His main adversary is more than 500 years old and he is way older...

Usually, readers like a bad character of story but I don't like Darious :)

Thanks for the wellwritten story, I'm waiting for tomorrow's post.

Ah, a good judge of character then :)

I love Darius too, it's the fact that readers tend to fall for the bad boy character

Yes, that's what I'm seeing :)

Darius is the character everyone loves to hate. But you are right. We keep reading to see what's the next shit he is going to get into. He's like a Teflon man(wolf), nothing seems to stick.

Haha! Yes. I once suggested that I do a 'Darius Diaries' and my followers went mad for that idea :)

Hi @michelle.gent
During the time of reading your novel, I had a strong impression that he was purposeful enough and was ready to "go head over heels" for his principles and purpose. Darius definitely can not be called a good character, most likely he really is one of the worst.
I represented Darius a little differently, but I think it's good, every reader can associate the characters in different ways.
Good description, I liked it

Thank you. I always appreciate your feedback.

A very beautiful story, (Blood on the Moon - Wolf Series Characters 3 - Darius), it has a very deep meaning and meaning to me. It all reminds me of my past is full of bitter and painful. Thanks for sharing

I wish the story did not have to come to an end but as you have said all food story have to come to an end.
But i wish we know you told us if Darius was bitten or born dat way because they actually have different way they operate.

I love your style of stories i have voted and resteem

Thank you.

Unfortunately, I can't tell you things my characters have not yet told me... if I force the issue, the story is not as good as it could be. I've learned from experience.
