Dimension V, the gatherer of power and keeper of the library, part II, a short story of fiction

in #writing7 years ago (edited)

There is always turmoil in someones heart. Affections come and go in most unlikely times and toward the most unlikely characters. She had darkness inside her, darkness that made her strive to be better, that made the light in her fight to shine brighter. And the woman had been on this Earth longer than most, still, she had a lot to endure in the future. This man of drugs and ruined youths reminded her of a time when magic was not considered science, when it was not studied yet.

Part I of this story

As she was sitting in the car that was taking her back to her own little palace, she realized that the crooked police officer behind, reminded her of a time long gone. A time when she had other enemies that killed with fire and axes. She was younger then, yet she looked the same. Her mind was that of less experience, though, she had just arrived on the planet, no that is not true, she had always been there, just without a human body, she was in each blade of the grass, each blow of the wind before, but now she was one of her own creations. She became them and they became her.

But the man of the Earth was stubborn, as was she. And even though she learned of a new kind of love, the one of lust and desire, and naked bodies, she also found out about the hard truth, that this love could end in betrayal oh, so easily, as being in love is not the same as loving. When she thought of it now, it seemed funny, don't most stories of sorrow get written because of failed love and betrayal? And aren't they usually stories that could have been avoided completely if a sprinkle of wisdom was added?

She used to love a king, a brutal killer of others, a king that wasn't afraid of burning down forests and feeding youths to the lions. But she also loved her trees and her hills, life was were her allegiances lay, with the world as a whole, and love was what made her blind for a moment. She thought she could change him, like they usually do, but the world had already molded him and through he loved her, his lust for blood was stronger. They both had something that they loved more than each other.

All things come to light sooner rather than later, and when he found out that the fire did not set to the trees and the lions did not eat the kids, because his queen was commanding them not to, he challenged her to a fight. He wanted them all to see that every one who betrayed the king would end up the same way. But he had not listened to her like he should have. She had told him that she had a connection with nature, but he had never asked more. If he had, he may have not dug that grave for himself.

We have seen how unforgiving it can be, storms and floods, heat waves and tornadoes, but we never learn to not anger the mother. She did not strike back the first time, she was still too naive to believe that the man she loved would kill her, just for the reason that she had protected others. She had seen him kill, but as it was said before, love made her blind.

She was put on a camel and he got on one, too. He gave her a spear and took a sword himself. They started on opposite sides of a field and she just stood there even after he started rushing his animal towards her, she did not move until he slashed her animals knees. His mistake was deciding to toy with her, to torture the animal. The second it fell, a scream that was more frightening than death itself, came out of her mouth. She jumped down and run to the front of the camel, she put her palms on its wounds and it stopped crying immediately.

There was no blood on her hands, but there was anger in her eyes, she knew that the next time the blade would come to her throat, she had seen the king do this before. He liked to play with his prey. Adults choose their own way, but she had rules on her own. You shall not kill unless you are hungry. You shall not take a child's life and you shall take full responsibility for taking another mans life. She stroked the camel and it got up on its feet, his wounds were gone like they were never there.

The king had seen her performing miracles, but he had never seen her heal wounds like that. He looked in her eyes, and for the first time in his life he was afraid, he saw anger and heart-break, vengeance and terror, he saw everything in them. He was the one to wake her up. In that moment he realized why she was so tempting to him. Her power was what he was striving for.

She reached her hands towards the sky and the sky went black, from a bright day nothing was left. He looked at her in awe and in terror, but he was the king that all were supposed to fear, so he commanded his camel to move. The animal did not step forward, instead it went on his knees and did not change its position no more. The king thought at first that his animals legs had been slashed, by the queens magic, but he knew that she would not do that. Instead she got back on her animal and stroked its fur, then expanded her arms and the animal grew. At first it was at the size of an elephant, but it did not stop there.

It was glowing in the moonlight that had appeared, but nobody in the audience, except the king, saw what was happening. Darkness had taken the sight of the people as it was a fight meant only to take place between two rulers. She slowly approached him, and through the camels eyes he saw hers as the animal leaned in. One last time, he saw those emotions, of everything, before he heard the words of thunder.

-- You will never rule again and your life will end in the pit of lions, you so keenly sent your subjects and enemies in. Your food will go scarce and you will never get out of your castle. Your people can leave, but if they try leaving taking you, they will starve or burn with you, it is your choice to command your people as you see fit, and it is their choice to listen or not. You will never see me again and every weapon you will touch will burn your palms, there will be no more killing with blade for you!- the voice of thunder went silent and the king blinked once, but when he opened his eyes, there was nobody there and the sun was shining once again.

But it was not like she had never been there. The mountains started moving, the ground rumbling and his castle was surrounded by thick walls of nature, leaving the only escape to be a forest thick, in a valley, where his castle was built. He saw this only exit from the trap, but when he tried to approach it, flames took over the trees. Weird flames they were, that never burned the wood and disappeared when he moved away, but once he got too close, they burned his skin, it stung like a million blades and left scars never to fade.

All came true what she had said, his people stayed for a while, but they had heard the queens words and when food went scarce, they wanted to leave. The king was strict and he liked punishments, so he forbid his subjects to move. Hunger makes ones-self desperate and the masses became just that, they rioted until the guards joined them and they fed the king to his own, beloved lions. They remembered the queen, and they set the animals free as they knew the queen would have wanted that. They hoped to call upon her for her mercy.

Their crops grew fast after the sacrifice of the king, and the hunt was good again, as long as they remembered the rules of nature.

The woman looked out of the window of the car, it was starting to rain and she was tired. She had learned a lot of lessons in her life, but she never gave up on love as it was the most beautiful thing she had ever known. She had learned to use her desires as well. The difference this day was that she knew better. She would enjoy herself with a man, but she would thread carefully, in the end she knew what came first to her. Children and nature, the innocent ones, as adults can make their own choices and be accountable for them.
