the comfy chair

a true friend encourages us, comforts us,
supports us like a big easy chair,
offering us a safe refuge from the world
~H Jackson Brown Jr

Some women collect shoes. I have a collection of chairs.

A quick inventory shows I own more than 20 chairs and that's not including outdoor seating. A few are broken and in need of repair.

Presently, one of my oldest is a rocking chair from the 1940's. It resides in my garden minus one rocker, showing its age with peeling chips of paint: red, various shades of green and a hint of white. The birds bathe on the seat that holds a clay plate of water.

Chairs are usually arranged in pairs, which gives them an important social position. Poems and songs have been written about them. Children love them—they associate chairs with snacking, napping, snuggling and being read to.

All of my chairs have a story.

My favorite thought of a comfortable chair is sitting lakeside on a dock with blanket nearby. A cool breeze might come up, but I’m prepared—with book in hand and a steaming cup of coffee in a ceramic mug.

even in winter this Santa seat looks comfy - I can sense birds nearby in the pines and almost feel that butterscotch sunshine. Lovely lacy lavender in snow

It's a marshmallow world.....not a butterscotch world. lol The lavender does look pretty with snow on it. I'll bet it still smells sweet.

You have one interesting collection there! All I can say, even though it's covered in snow, I can just imagine sitting on it and watching the nature around!

Definitely great photo and collection!

If we got a break in the temperature maybe sitting outside would be nice but it's so cold out there that we've hard cold temperature alerts for a few days. I think we'll get a break in a week. brrrr......

Very inspiring @countrygirl. Nice post. Ha

Thank you. What inspired you in particular?

old chairs that remain sturdy despite being time consuming. sorry @countrygirl, my english not good. Im from Aceh, Indonesia

Thank you for bringing your inspiration comment. I appreciate it and I appreciate the language barrier. Thank you for taking the time to participate.

Ur welcome @countrygirl. I hope we can continue to establish communication even if blocked by language, time and distance is very far. Success is always for you.

Of course! We'll figure it out. Thank you :)

I believe you also have a collection of wall clocks, which you were supposed to organize and photograph :P I see one in the photo above :)

Thank you SO much for the reminder!! I was hoping you'd forget. I have so many collections around here - I just need to get motivated.

So I'll do a post with one chair at a time? That would be so UNinteresting.

One clock down....tic toc.

Haha, I didn't mean to put pressure on you. But a promise is a promise 😁

Maybe you could do one chair + one clock at a time? :)

If I did one at a time, I'd have enough posts for a year. :) A promise IS a promise. I have it on my to do list.....we'll see how much of a procrastinator I am.

Your photography has been great, especially the winter nature has enhanced the beauty of the picture.

I'll bet you say that to everyone.

I'm a fan of Sam Maloof's amazing work. His rocking chairs are the most beautiful I have ever seen, They look pretty comfy as well.

I looked Sam Maloof up and yes, his work was amazing. The wood so sleek and the style very clean. I enjoyed a dining table I saw as well - very pricey.

I never realized it but you're right. Chairs are really cool! It's awe-inspiring to think about all the different designs for chairs over the centuries.

We used to always sing a beautiful haunting song of a poor street vendor when we sang by the campfire. You sing it in a round. Maybe you know it --- "Chairs to mend, old chairs to mend. Mackerel, fresh mackerel. Any old rags, any old rags?"

No....I don't know that one - and I used to sing a lot of camp songs. I wish I knew it. I listened to it on youtube to see if it was familiar - I loved rounds.

Thanks for that!!

Oh, I’m glad you found it! And here I was wondering how I could get the music to you. 😁 By the way, I found you because we are both doing the #challenge30days. I will follow your progress! Good luck!

Thanks so much @jayna. I'm having a hard time with the challenge bc I'm not a writer so I am trying to force myself to do something that's not entirely natural for me. Although I do write posts or blogs, the pressure to write is a different pressure.

All the best to you too!

Ah, then you are a writer! If you have blogging powers, that’s all you need. What are some of your favorite past posts? Can you use any of them for inspiration? Maybe create a little editorial calendar for the month so you don’t look up a blank page each day. It could be as simple as writing a list of questions you would be prepared to answer if someone ever interviewed you. How long have you been a collector and how did you get started? Have any of your collectibles increased in value, and do you have any related advice for other collectors?? 😊

Aw, thanks for your encouragement @jayna. Tomorrow is another day so I'll try working at it again with the list of questions.....that's a great idea.
