Sci-Fi Novel, Origin Andromeda - Part 2, Run!
Part 2, Run!
With the cube still in his hand, Henrik's consciousness returns to the office, his head is spinning heavily and he feels fatigued and tired, he’s in his chair, realizing that he never left it.
He re-orientates himself in the room, shaking of the weariness from the experience.
"What is this!? where does it come from? Who is Rob?"
The cube is dark again, he can feel the heat residue from it but it’s no longer active, as he puts it down on the table he closes his eyes and leans back against the headrest.
The experience that Henrik had with the cube affected a part of his brain that has previously lain dormant, it activated a memory of a distant place, a childhood memory that has been hidden deep inside his mind.
He is standing in the bottom of a valley, playing games with other kids , the valley is filled with long rust colored grass that is slowly dancing in the wind, bushy trees are spread around the landscape in groups, their structure is similar to some fungi on the ground.
The top of the trees are round and compact, some have leaves that light up in neon blue, but most are green.
In the distance he sees a woman with a beautiful and friendly smile is standing on top of one of the hills, she is dressed in a white and blue checkered summer dress, she sends out a vibe of love and affection.
She waves to Henrik, asks him to come to her, tell him that it's time for birthday cake…
Henrik’s memory is suddenly disturbed by the fact that Bjorn, his most trusted friend and co-worker, is grabbing his left arm and holds one hand against Henrik’s mouth so that he can’t make any noise, with an slow and serious voice he says.
"Follow me ... fast, we must get out of here!"
Bjorn loosens his grip around Henrik’s arm and begins to move out of the room.
Henrik swiftly gets out of the chair and for some reason instinctively grabs the cube, putting it in his pocket and runs after Bjorn, when they come out through the office door he asks with a confused voice.
"Why are we running?"
Bjorn doesn’t answer.
They run through an empty corridor, past the conference room and out onto the stairwell leading them down to the entrance floor and hopefully a safe exit.
"Down the stairs, and watch out for men in green coats, with some luck they have not turned up yet. quickly now! "
Henrik who is beginning to feel the rush of adrenalin in his body, and with an even more confused voice then before he asks.
"What men in green coats?!"
Bjorn suddenly stops in the middle of the stairs, Henrik almost stumbles over him, but is able to grab a hold on the handrail before they collide, they are nearly down to the second floor.
Bjorn has seen something, both look down, at the bottom of the stairs there is a large, well-built person in a thick dark green coat and a short peaked cap.
Even now when he is standing with his back against them, he looks very intimidating in his military stance.
Bjorn gestures with his hands that they should turn around and go up again.
They open the glass door to the office landscape on the third floor carefully, closing it even more carefully, trying to not make any sounds.
The desks in the office landscape are neatly lined up in sections of four tables in a square, with three sections on each side of the room, in the middle there is a corridor with dark blue noise-absorbing partitions dividing the room in two.
Henrik notices that it’s possible to see all the way to the other side when standing in an upright position.
Hiding behind one of the office desks, with a noticeable worried facial expression, Bjorn says.
"That did not work as I hoped for, we have to find another way out before they find us!"
"Ok, Bjorn, but you have to tell me what this is all about! who are the men in green coats? And why are they looking for us? "
"We'll take it later, when we are safe again, there's no time for explanations now, trust me my friend” Bjorn looks around the desk for any of the men.
“Think! do you know any other way down and out of here except for the elevator or the stairs?"
Henrik remembered the old fire staircase is located on the opposite side of the room.
"I trust you, follow me, if we manage to not get noticed when moving through this room, there should be a fire staircase that we can use, the alarm will be triggered but my car is just a short sprint away when we get to the ground"
"Good, but we can’t take your car, they have probably already installed a GPS transmitter in it," says Bjorn, as they start to move towards the other side of the room.
They move swiftly through the landscape, the middle corridor is straightforward, nothing between them and the door they entered through, so they have to be quick.
"Almost there now, check that no one has seen us," Henrik whispers
"the coast is clear ... no, wait ..." says Bjorn
One of the men has spotted them through the glass door, he shouts something unclear at the same time as he pushes the door open and starts rushing towards them.
