Reading James Quincy's "Why a World Without Waste is Possible" on Medium, i was left with a hollow mind as to the ways i have contributed to the pollution of the World. Feeling guilty, i asked my Hair stylist that same evening of reading that article; "Where and how do you dispose my hair and that of a hundred customers". His response was not that satisfactory to me as i begin to wonder where those waste bags being carted away by refuse trucks goes to.

James stated and i quote;

According to United Nation Environment Programme, global materials use is expected to reach almost 90 Billion Tons in 2017; three times more than the amount used in 1970. We're using(and wasting) our natural resources at a rapidly increasing rate and acting like we'll never run out of it!- James Quincey, President and CEO; The Coca-Cola Company

The unacceptable fact is that we are actually running out of Natural Resources, at least till the ones in recycled processes reaches it's completion and chances are the Next Generation would benefit from it and not us.

In under 5 minutes, over 40,000 plastic wastes is being dumped in the Oceans and water ways!

This is killing Marine life and other wildlife with vast vegetation and make no mistake, once the wildlife, trees and forests is affected the more broader impact would be on Human!

A universe, Country without waste is not a child's play; to achieve this involves the entire populace and not just the Government and private industries. Both Adults and youths, kids and toddlers all have to do whatever necessary irrespective of how little or huge to tackle this waste deposit problem.

One of the major cause is the packaging problem of food and consumables. The actual fault is how this packaging materials is being disposed off, though this packages had contributed more to healthy living; food cans and vegetables containers had prevented food wastage and prevented diseases to spread. Same thing applies to water and beverages bottles which had helped many Regions in distress despite the dangers of pollution it poised. But could it be a World without packaging? Absolutely No! Because to nurture that idea is to go back to the Stone Age!

In this efforts, The Coca-Cola company has announced a bold and ambitious goal:

To help collect and recycle a bottle or can for every one it sells by 2030. Regardless of where it comes from, The company wants every package to have more than one life- Coca-Cola Vision for a World without Waste.

Recycling is the main tool, orientating communities of the World on where to recycle, what to recycle and how to recycle is the main task which The Coca-Cola Company called the "Circular Economy" where materials are used and reuse more than once instead of a once in a lifetime usage.

*Emulating The Coca-Cola Company idea, i am starting by collating every plastic and glass bottles in my apartment and the waste bin, to bag the all and send to the Coca-Cola company nearest to me in Ikeja Lagos State Nigeria!

That's very commendable of you @oluwoleolaide, I've not really considered my carbon footprint, and since recycling is not even really a "thing" in Nigeria, it was never occurred to me.
But I guess I can play my own part by trying to.

I hope I form the habit. Thank you.

I have heard a little about steem lagos, now i know they are a great community of Nigerians. Well done to everyone over there 🇳🇬

greetings from aceh (indonesia)

Greetings from Lagos Nigeria...

I definitely believe this is possible because all these stuff we throw away without recycling tend to make our environment dirty and during raining season they tend block water way and also disturbs aquatic animal which serves many purposes.

Yes, you got that right!

i am starting by collating every plastic and glass bottles in my apartment and the waste bin, to bag the all and send to the Coca-Cola company nearest to me in Ikeja Lagos State Nigeria!

Wonderful idea. By showing people and enlightening them on how all these affect us in the long run. An'it begins with me initiative' could be adopted. Just like you've discovered it and have learnt the better way to go about handling waste, changing your disposal means would trigger a possibility of change in others around you too.

Good job!

I have a friend that does this already in Lagos. He separates his waste and bags plastics to return them to the company.
Thanks for sharing
We need to save marine lives and the ecosystem in general
