THE WILD-MAN'S WILD FRIENDS VIDEO SERIES - EPISODE 43 – GARTER SNAKE

in #wild-man7 years ago

This is one of my favorite snakes!

Also, Garter Snakes are one of the most commonly encountered snakes in many areas of North American. Many individual species of Garter and Ribbon snakes exist, and differentiating them can sometimes be difficult. About 25% of the snake species in Wisconsin are Garter & Ribbon snakes.

Many of you will probably recognize this snake, and the dark black with yellow lines pattern of these snakes is one that is familiar with people of all ages. The Garter Snake is just as likely to be seen at the lake or river as it is to be seen in the woods or field, so sometimes they are very easy to come by.

The information is the video is original but I did have a quick refresher from this source.

I found the weirdest spider in my garden and thought you might be interested:

Very cool, there may also be ones that are white or yellow in color in your area.

Yes, I have seen the yellow version in front of my house as well.

I've always liked them. When I was a kid in Minnesota, I once saw one entwined around the trellis at the edge of our deck, halfway through swallowing a frog. Had there been digital photography and modern memes at the time, I would have posted it as "Snek meets predicament" or some such.

Very interesting. Thanks for the REAL COMMENT TOO!

Oops. That was a typo. I meant to say, "Awesome post, plz upvote & follow!" and not actually upvote your post. I will reform one of these days...

Oops, looks like I accidentally upvoted your lame comment then.

Ah... I know this snake well.

This is the only snake to bite me waaaaay up in the Canadian backwoods.
Everyone (from Europe) was afraid that I was going to die. We were about two days paddle fro the road end, so no chance of medical aid before the poison did its job.

Luckily for me, I had been to a nature centre a couple of days before hand and seen all sorts of snakes there and talked about them with the staff. (Ok, I admit it. I wasn't really talking about the snakes, I was trying to chat up the very cute ranger ;-) )

So I knew that the garter snake venom wouldn't kill me. The bite did hurt a bit though. And I learned really quick to grab just a little closer to the head ;-)

There aren't too many snakes to be worried about in the US, all things considered. Canada even less so, other than perhaps rattlesnakes in some areas.

wow. I'm afraid of snakes but I kinda wanna have exactly like that one. I have a snake bestfriend thou. HAHAHAHA just kidding :)

How come you're not scared of snakes??????? You're a tough guy! :)
