During cold war, there were many races between Rassia and America. Among them one was, who can touch the moon first. On 13th September 1959, the first human made object to reach the surface of the moon was the Soviet Union's Luna 2. Now Americans were to show the world that they can do bigger than Rassia. After teen years of Soviet Union, the United State's Appolo-11 was the first manned mission to land on the moon. Mission commander Neil Armstrong was the first human being, who left foot on the surface of moon, on 20th July 1969. He and his team spent about 2:15 hours together outside the spacecraft. 21.5 kg of Lunar material were collected to bring back to the Earth. In 1971, President Richard Nixon proclaimed National moon landing day on 20th July to celebrate the anniversary of man's first moon landing. To date, the United States is the only country to have successfully conducted manned mission to our closest neighbour.
