Cabbage White Butterflies (upper left) have a mating ritual which begins with the male flying closer to the female from above or behind. As he gets closer, his wings start fluttering faster while he releases pheromones. The male might even do a special dance and the female may or may not join in on the dance if interested. When mating they are attached by the end of their abdomens. This pair did not mate.
This is a different pair and they were not successful with mating either. The female is not interested in mating and told the male by bending her abdomen upwards. She is saying, "I am not available because I already mated." Poor guy. He went through all of that and now he has to go find another female and see if his next pick will be available.

Thank you!
Sort of like the prom night parents hope for--anticipation, a dance, and everyone goes home alone :)
HAHAHA! What a reply @agmoore! Love it! LOL! : )
The butterflies reminded me of girls in their prom dresses. I don't know how you capture these photos but they are brilliant!
You made my day once again with your kind compliment @agmoore. Thank you! : ) I take many, many photos to get a couple of good ones. This is my 2nd year of being behind the camera, loving every second of it and I am pleased with my little digital camera. Thanks again my friend. HUGS! : )
