Wednesday Walk. "My Neighbourhood."

"My Neighbourhood."

When I go for walks in my neighbourhood I automatically head for the waterfront but today we are going to stroll past a few of the shops in Scarborough village and as we head north, I'll show you a little variety of the types of homes available in this area.

This is by no means a comprehensive overview. More like a small glimpse to give you a feel for our seaside village. There are more cafes, restaurants and small businesses in the opposite direction, but that will be for another blog. I know I said we'll be walking across the road from the waterfront but as it is the main feature of this area I have to at least include one photo with a sea view. The Scarborough Beach Park is a very popular place to visit, especially during weekends and school holidays.

The adjacent car park is full even for a Wednesday. Notice how I slipped in another shot with a sea view? I just can't help myself. (Lol)

Nestled between health facilities and our local chemist is a Kiwi owned café/restaurant called 'Waka.' The food is scrumptious, the coffee is top notch and their choice of music is awesome, but that might be because I hail from The Land of the Long White Cloud and am rather biased towards the melodious sounds of New Zealand.

I haven't had the pleasure of dining at this Japanese Restaurant but I hear it is well worth paying them a visit. Having the choice of dining in or out makes sense in Queensland because a soft sea breeze is often more favourable that air conditioning. And of course, there is that fabulous view of Moreton Bay across the road to enjoy which adds to ones overall dining experience.

The obligatory phone box sits conveniently on the footpath for people who have lost their mobile's. Very few people leave home without their cell phones but I guess there are occasions when using a public phone is required. Hopefully one doesn't need to have a private conversation because contemporary phone boxes are all open. Gone are the days of the enclosed phone boxes. Too many surfaces for vandals to damage. A sad sign of the times unfortunately.

Here is the answer for anyone looking to buy or rent property in Scarborough. Real estate agents are kept pretty busy in this area.

When you live at the beach, you have to have a Seafood restaurant and 'Fin Fresh' are experts in preparing gourmet Fish n Chips. I should know, because that is what we had for dinner last night. Cod was our choice of fish. They do have a wide range available although I didn't see Whale on the menu. (lol) That would seem rather cannibalistic wouldn't it when I have grown to love whales very much since joining Steemit. And one day I hope to become a whale myself …….so I'll stick to cod for the moment.

They have a small Al Fresco area and it is a case of, "First in First Serve," if you want to dine out.

No customers yet, but it is only 4.30pm. That will change on my way home.

Our local Post Office is located beneath a new block of high rise apartments. Large unit blocks like this one have changed the look of Scarborough significantly in recent years. I remember when we first immigrated from New Zealand years ago, there were hardly any units at all in Scarborough village but because it is such a desirable place to live, that has all changed. It is sad to see many of the charming cottages disappear and I can understand why locals resist these changes but it is inevitable and as long as the council continue to preserve the 'village' atmosphere, this area will always remain a popular place to live or visit.

Here is an example of the charm of older style homes. The tiled roof and the archways at the front entrance are very unique.

Another block of units are placed on the corner and just about every unit would have a marvellous view of the ocean.

And their porthole shaped windows are in keeping with the nautical style of the area.

Here is an example of the old and the new residing side by side.

It's time to turn back and head for home but I have an important decision to make. Do I pick up a bottle of wine to enjoy with our Fish'n Chips?

BWS.jpg

*Or shall I choose a bottle of Port to sip on as we make ourselves comfortable on our balcony and enjoy the rest of the evening? *

Thank you for joining me on my early evening stroll in my neighbourhood.

I can Understand you slipping in shots withthe water, I would be the same, what a beautiful area, I think I would be a regular at the Waka place for sure, and Fish and Chips dang I miss those so much there is nothing here that does them as good as down under ones

thanks for joining Wednesday walk tip!

Thanks so much for your great comments and kind tip @tattoodjay Yes, Fish n Chips is synonymous with beaches and seaside villages here and N.Z. and we're fortunate that our local Seafood shop serves up a delicious version every time. As long as we don't go there too often, otherwise we'd have to double our efforts with our walk to work off the calories. (Lol)

@trudeehunter OHh yesI guess thats one plus that they dont do god fish and chips here or I would have them too often LOL

Yes Jay......it's all about pacing yourself. (lol) Some days I am better at it than others.

Wow what a fun and entertaining ride, you know I like the minimalist touch that your city has, it's really amazing, as I would like my city to be like that.

Thank you for joining me on my stroll around my neighbourhood @fabian98 Scarborough is a one of a few towns situated on the Redcliffe Peninsula and many of them have their own beaches. It is a very picturesque place to live. I'm glad you enjoyed viewing this post.

It sound like the perfect place, if one day i can go there i'll walk for those yards.

That looks like a pleasant walk. The little cafe looks like a good spot for a coffee. I had to laugh at the pay phone, though. Those things are dinosaurs, now that everyone has a cell phone!

It is a very pleasant walk @fotosdenada Most days I do a brisk 50 minute walk which takes in a much larger area but sometimes its just nice to take a leisurely stroll and enjoy the surroundings. Thanks very much for viewing.

thanks for taking me back to Australia! Really looking forward to December!

It was my pleasure to take you back to Australia @betterthanhome Many thanks for tagging along on my early evening stroll. How long will you be in Australia when you come in December?

we will enter with the 3 month tourist visa around end of november beginning of december and stay 3 month. after that we probably just do a visa run and come back.

Wonderful. You have much to look forward to @betterthanhome I hope the weather won't be too hot for you.

A beautiful walk @trudeehunter! Looks like a wonderful place to live and enjoy the outdoors! That water is so pretty! It is rare to see a payphone here anymore but there are a few still around. Yummy..cod sounds delish!! 🍴

Thanks very much @deerjay We are so blessed to live here and the weather enables us to get outdoors often. I'm glad you enjoyed seeing a little of Scarborough in Queensland.

You're very welcome!

Wow, beautiful neighbourhood Trudee! And that last photo....WOW!!!! It's like a painting <3 <3

Yes @lyndsaybowes It certainly is a great place to live. I love the country too but we've traded that to be near the beach. The outlook is heavenly especially early morning and evening. I'm glad you enjoyed this short stroll with me. Have an awesome day.
