STEEM Account Creation Problem at Critical Level – BlockchainBI News

in #vlog6 years ago

Steemit inc have been creating most of the accounts on steem. In November they created over 80% of all new accounts and year to date they have claimed over 30% of new account creation tokens.

The level of new accounts created has dropped to an alarming level. Steemit Inc have laid off 70% of their staff and I don’t know if anyone is now responsible for this job in Steemit Inc.

We need to take some action now and I call out to the app owners, to those claimed account creation tokens and to @steemonboarding. Lets make this a priority.

Steem.com sign up page says there is a 1-2 weeks wait. Is this still true? Can we have this page changed. I have some suggestions in the video.

In this video we will take a look at the report in more detail and I will explain my concerns and what I would like to see done.

I have also included in this video an overlay of todays #plank-contest. @yanyanbebe and @minloulou will host this challenge, so join me and have some fun

How to join

Warm-up and prepare yourself to take the challenge
Work on the ONE-MINUTE-PLANK
(If this is your first time to do PLANK, just take it easy and try to do 30 seconds or less! And then slowly increase the time to one-minute)
Take a snap tube when you’re working on it
Upload the clip to dtube or put the shot into your post. Or you can nominate others to join as well
You can use this as a topic

I'm not sure it's bad for the ecosystem in the long run for Steemit Inc to play a less central role. Sure it's painful in the short term while other better account creation tools are created, but at the end of the day, we don't need a single centralized company creating everyone's accounts and contributing to the misconception that Steem = Steemit.

I create accounts for my friends and you should do the same!

It is bad because if new people don't come in , no one pays the bills. Don't you know how technology pyramids played out like , for example pets.com ?

Now any small dolphin could create an account.
So, the only need is to cooperate a little.

If you need an instant account for a friend, drop me a email at bugspirit[zero]@gmail.com with a desirable acc name

I'will sent you a private keys.

not really true. i am a dolphin with almost 10sp. it takes more than half my RCs to claim an account, and it takes a few days for these RCs to rebuild so I can only claim an account every few days.

Yes, It's like 5k SP to claim an account and 2 days to charge your RC. So 1 acc in a day for 10kSP.

365 new steemians in a year I'd call it a nice result )

I have a bunch of unused claimed accounts too. And don't know what to do with them.
Anyhow can I transfer them to somebody who may have a better use of them?

How do I create a new account without a phone number?

Someone with unused SP could create it for you directly into blockchain.

How do I do it? Is there a link?

Hi Paula Thank you very much for your work in creating these reports and more important sharing your gut feeling. On a personal level yesterday I added Steem as a payment on our wholesale business website. I also modified our contact form to make it more DTube friendly. It my particular case I have many long term relationships and 99% of the people are in their own business of some sort. So when I encourage any of them to either invest and /or spend time in being a quality member of a "newer platform" I have to be ready to back up with my personal time in showing how to purchase Steem etc. Just speaking for myself not as what I think other members of the DTube Global Commnuity should do. If you get a chance you will continue to see many other changes to our website during the next few days as we are getting ready for our 2019 new items, and coordination with agents around the World. I put some of this on my latest video this morning. Thanks again. Aloha from Hawaii Rich

this is brialliant, I too am moving my brand over to steem, best of luck, my 2019 be amazing

We accept steem on https://oneloveipfs.com . No SBD. Also we hope to have the subscriptions plugins for woocommerce/steem working by next month.

Its been at most about 1-2 days for me and some times same day when hitting that button for some dapps so it seems a little off. I am sure it either turns people off of the steem network by seeing that or simply they don't understand it. Having dapps do it would be nice we members deligate a good amount to some of these projects.

Thanks for raising the alarm.

Frankly this is a joke and prevents me from investing more in STEEM at the moment.

not a very funny joke...

It has been pointed out to me that maybe there is just low demand for accounts, however I think its more than that because I was expecting a few to sign up and there is no sign of them yet.

sign-up system has always been a ridiculous obstacle, and example of the huge failings of steemit in simple matters

Yo @paulag, solve the account problem with Steeminvite by @Pharesim if not just get in Buildteam only 4.6 Steem and Voila.
About the rest...well, better don't talk.
Cheers!
#SnapCmmentPlus

I completely forgot about steeminvite. Nice share, thanks

Welcome... by the way congrats for your Level 79! hahaha... Everything is so strange!!! Just dunno....

Yep I know..but was a mistake in Busy I see :) / Now it's fixed.. strange days over the chain!
Cheers

lol. i got confused until i read this one. Cheers, Leo.

Resteemed for visibility.

Where is @ned

It feels like we're on a burning cart rolling down hill and the driver abandoned ship a while back.

Can someone stroll to steemit HQ to see if that place is even still operational?

The captain doesn't disappear all of a sudden, even while sick, a one line post is more than enough assurance.

HF 20 made steemit inc less responsible for this. We don't need ned to fix this problem beside making some changes on the steem.com website

We have a couple of API services helping to onboard users. about 2 weeks ago, i created an account for a friend and it took only 24 hours to get it done. Last month, @matt-a helped me create 2 accounts for friends as well. We have a couple of accounts with large stakes. Maybe, if we could make the API process even clearer to people who aren't tech savvy like myself, it could become a responsibility of the entire community. I haven't watched your video yet due to data issues. So, i might not know about the solutions you are suggesting. But if we can get a different site apart from steemit.com to help onboard users (and then make it the community's responsibility), it could work. Steemit Inc's onboarding process is a joke.
I will watch the video in a few hours. Resteemed.

I have the same issue when I created a account for my friend. It’s already 3 weeks now and nth have received

Posted using Partiko iOS

really. I was also expecting a few people to have signed up and they have not yet, I wonder is it down to this. Very unfortunate. Lets hope we can do something here

My friend waited over 4 weeks, and left after 1. it takes forever, promises a lot, delivers nothing.#
It is what it is now, one huge circle jerk in decline!

As you say, there are plenty of claimed accounts already created, and being created daily. Turning them into created accounts merely requires a username and keys. However, that new account has zero SP so cannot do anything. The key here is to find those able and willing to delegate a minimum SP.

However, I was mulling this over and thought about how to do this in a way that is both helpful to the new user and to the whole onboarding process.

The existing platforms that take some beneficiary reward (BR) from their users could do this in a way that scales up. Let's assume a minimum of 20 SP delegated and that a platform takes 5% BR. A new user band can be created that has, for example, 7% BR; that 7% BR goes towards paying back the 20 SP. Once the 20 SP is paid back, the user has the option of requesting the delegated 20 SP to be undelegated. This only makes sense to them if they have already powered up more than this, so this also encourages to vest their earnings. Making it a request, rather than something that just disappears suddenly, places the responsibility on the user. Once the SP has been undelegated, the user gets the benefit of having just 5% BR.

At the end of this process, the platform has 40 SP and can onboard 2 new users, and so on.

Those new users who never make it to repay the 20 SP can keep it for a fixed number of months after which it is removed, or whatever arrangement the platform chooses. Some method is needed for those new users who make no effort to pay back the delegation.

Comments?

Hi, What is BR?

Beneficiary Rewards

Okay, thanks... With that, your suggestion becomes clearer and i think it makes a lot of sense. with Steem being this low, we get rewarded more. Should the community start-up a great support tag for these new users, A lot of them can pay off the 20SP in a very few posts. Worth implementing.

Thanks! I also edited my original comment to make it clearer.

Indeed, as you imply, any community (or individual) could implement this; just needs a bit of tracking of posts plus clear rules - and some spare SP to delegate initially.

I think I shall write a post on this - see if it gets more traction :-)

Yes its a good idea, will pop over to your post later to leave a more detailed comment

So I want to keep my credibility with you and will be doing an extensive video 5 with discussion and screen shots on the steem / and our shopping cart et cetera, Thanks, Rich
