Though many things can go wrong when you start throwing everything you have left in the fridge in a blender, but I must say this one came out pretty good.

It is been a while now since I've started my first batch of kombucha and I am still in love with this fizzy fermented drink. I love it as it is or infused with ginger. And it tastes so good in smoothies too.

Never heard of kombucha before? Kombucha is a fermented black or green tea drink commonly consumed for its supposed health benefits and probiotic effect.

Though for many of you it might be an acquired taste, if you haven't tried it yet, give it a go. I am sure you can find some in your closest health food store.... but of course, nothing beats the taste of homemade. If you are adventurous I added the link below to my recipe. It is super easy. Trust me. The only thing you need is one bottle of store-bought kombucha to get you started, tea, water, sugar, and some patience.

TROPICAL GREEN KOMBUCHA SMOOTHIE


INGREDIENTS (SERVES 2-4)


1 cup fresh mint leaves
1-1.5 cup fresh spinach
1 stalk celery, roughly chopped
1 carrot, peeled and roughly chopped
1 big banana
1 cup pineapple chunks
1 cup papaya chunks
1-2 tbsp chia seeds
1 cup homemade kombucha
Water as needed

DIRECTIONS


Blend spinach, mint, kombucha, and water until smooth. Add the remaining ingredients and blend again. If the smoothie is too thick, add more liquid base. If you have a high-speed blender, throw in everything at once.

FYI: I also added some of teh papaya seeds as they have an antiparasite effect. Quite important when you live in the tropics. Do not add too much as they can make your smoothie very bitter. If you added too much add more sweet fruits or maple syrup the mask the bitter flavor.

Optional: top with toppings of your choice. I used chia seeds this time.

You could just have this as a meal. The papaya seeds are something I've never tried.
