SMOOTHIE OF THE DAY | TROPICAL HEALING HOLY BASIL MORNING DRINK
Good morning my lovely steemit friends. Have you ever tried holy basil or Tulsi before? Though I should use it more often in my smoothies, Tulsi tea is a thing at our home.
Tulsi is a sacred plant in Hindu belief. They regard this ancient healing plant as an earthly manifestation of the goddess Tulsi/Vrinda.
This yummy tasting herb is native to the Indian subcontinent, but these days you can find it throughout the Southeast Asian tropics.
Furthermore, tulsi Is a good source of protein, vitamin E, riboflavin and niacin, and a very good source of dietary fiber, vitamin A, C, K, and B6, folate, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, zinc, copper and manganese.
Perfect to start this hot, sweaty tropical day with the right amount of nutrients.
TROPICAL HEALING HOLY BASIL MORNING DRINK
INGREDIENTS (SERVES 2 FOR BREAKFAST)
1 cup holy basil or Tulsi
1 carrot
3 passion fruit
1 banana (frozen for extra creaminess)
1 cup papaya chunks
1 cup pineapple chunks
1 mango chunks
Fresh turmeric to taste
2 tbsp unsalted peanut butter
3 cups water
Chia seeds (optional topping)
Goji berries (optional topping)
Pinch of freshly ground black pepper (to increase the bioavailability of turmeric's active compound curcumin)
DIRECTIONS
- Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth.
- Optional: Top with superfoods such as chia seeds and goji berries if you like
