Aim of Analysis

Every month I  produce a Post bench-marking report with the aims of:

• Aiding the STEEM Community with a place to benchmark their posts and growth

• Create a report that can be used for comparisons in other periods

• To track my personal targets and record achievements

Please note this data is based on Posts and not Comments.

If you missed last months report you can check it out here

In September we had HF20, this caused a reduction in on chain activity for the last week of the month.  This lead to an increase in rewards pool which would have inflated payments in for a time October.  This report for november should show a true reflection of activity with everything from HF20 now leveled off.

Financial Performance

In November 18 the % of posts with no payout was just over 16%, remaining consistent with last month.  Pre fork this was always above 20%

The % of posts with a payout of <$1 has increased from 56% last month to +60% in November.

There were no posts with a payout of above $500 this month

The average post pay-out value in Nov was $1.68  and if we exclude posts with no payout this increases to $2.02

The median payout value was $0.10 with a standard deviation of 7.64

The number of posts decreased by 14% on the previous month and the gross payouts decreased by 57%.  The drop in the price of steem has had an impact on payouts.

You can see how this compares to previous period in the charts below.

Top Authors based on Gross post payouts

Top Category

Comments

The % of posts with no comments  41.72%, this is consistent with  October.

The mean number of comments per post is 3.10, and the median is 1. You can see how this compares to previous period in the chart below.

Votes

The % of posts with 0 net votes has also remained consistent with last month at 7.21%.

The median votes per post was 13 and the average was 43.57.  You can see how this compares to previous period below.

Flags

In votes above we also have flags, however combined only 2.6% of posts had a net downvote.

20.5K posts received 1 or more flags (this is posts not comments).  This makes up 5.72% of all posts made.  This is also consistent with last month.

In the first table we can see the authors with the highest % of flags and after this the table shows who gave the most flags. Following this we can see the time series for when flags were given

Other Data

The line chart above represents the number of new posts per day in September 18 and the bar chart below that shows the peak posting hours.

Conclusion

The number of posts each month has been on a downtrend this year and November was no exception. I expect that the crypto downturn is responsible for much of the recent drop.

As expected the payouts reduced as the rewards pool had leveled off by the end of October from the HF20 changes, however there was an additional hit with the lower price of steem.

Engagement in terms of comments per post has remained rather consistent, however last month we seen a massive jump (over 100% jump) in the median number of votes per post and this has remained consistent this month.  This can be tied in with the new user report I produce where I have found less inactive accounts registering and more voting only accounts.

The % of posts that received flags has remained consistent.

Keeping track of my own posts, on average I earned $17.41 per post, and each post received an average of 209 votes.

How did you posts do in November, please do leave a comment below and let me know how you got on?

The Data and Queries

As always I have connected to Steemsql managed by @arcange using Power BI and the query is used was

     SELECT
     author,
    category,
     created,
     children,
     total_payout_value,
     net_votes,
     pending_payout_value
     FROM
     Comments (NOLOCK)
      where created >= CONVERT(DATE,'2018-11-01')
     and created< CONVERT(DATE,'2018-12-01')
    and depth = 0

The code used to get flag details was

SELECT
*
FROM
txVotes (NOLOCK)
where timestamp >= CONVERT(DATE,'2018-11-01')
and timestamp< CONVERT(DATE,'2018-12-01')
and weight <0

Hi @paulag, thanks for the update! Unfortunately, the decrease in the number of posts keeps going on, and the low Steem price doesn't help either. It also reduces the payouts, the vote values and therefore certainly also the number of posts without payout. What is really interesting is the increasing number of voters, which was also present in your new-user analysis! Nov. 25th stands out significantly by the number of flags - any idea what happened there?

Thank you for your review, @crokkon! Keep up the good work!

hi Paula, i'm still powering up ... who else should I delegate to? right now i have @rewards-pool , @partiko , @silvergoldbotty
@ssg-community , @steemonboarding , @thealliance, and @fundition

ty

Lol you rock. this is awesome. keep going and you will be bigger than me unless i get fiat and become an orca over night :-)

what about @dcooperation, im really liking what he is doing. its ran by @clixmoney and he is working really hard pushing engagement and community on dtube. I currently delegate him a little and hope to increase it soon. There is also @c-cubed the curation initiative, another awesome one to consider.

I'll put it on my list for tonight. Peace

Thanks a lot for inclding me and the project I'm working on. ☺

You are welcome, we need more like you 😁

This is super great Paula!

It might be way too hard... and if so, I apologise... but would there be a way to differentiate comments made by bots and comments made by Steemians? It'll be interesting to see how that changes the mean value of comments.

Its difficult, i would need to get a full list of bots

Posted using Partiko Android

Ah, sorry about that... I'm sure it's not worth the effort.

I think Steemhunt has a full list of bots in their github, but I'm not sure how up to date it is. Thanks for the reply!

leave it with me ;-)

What chb is doing is disgusting. That is all.

funny how the top name has changed and no one has even noticed.......bar you

Nearly 2%, for 38 posts, and 50-70% of each post is just some copy pasted cult leader drivel. It's gross and he's duping people.

It was the first thing I noticed too... and had only come across him this week when I saw a ton of responses to a 'Why Bitcoin will fail' video, which did nothing but show that he doesn't understand Bitcoin.

Surely he's not getting any actual native upvotes though... his content is terrible.

The other day many of the posts on trending were his. Lets face it, accounts my size cant do anything, and the money is not in his hands but that of the bot owners

Posted using Partiko Android

Exactly... you have to wonder if he's actually operating at a loss... surely by placing such large bids on bots he'd absolutely massacre his ROI and anyone else in that bid window.

I just recently starting seeing his posts and they seem interesting. I like that he asks to support those commenting on his posts but I have never seen them being worth so much... how is that happening? Excuse my ignorance but want to have the perspective...

He buys votes to fake popularity. We only need 49 more con artists like him to destroy the place permanently.

I wonder how sustainable it is to buy that many votes which do not necessarily provide profit?

I guess with a no loss no gain the intention is to grow followers and autovotes till he is earning enough not to have to use bots. Its very jerry banfield, but at least with jerry he brought a wave of nrw users

Anyone can pay for bidbots

Great report! Love seeing the stats and facts of Steemit activity. Amazing how much the top 2 got paid in November. Having that amount in USD to buy Steem right now would put you in the Orca range closing in on being a Whale!

It's a shame to read how many posts do not receive even one comment. Yet, there are a few posts out there that don't make any effort at all. Posting badly taken or blurry photos or just having a title/headline with no content... What was the point of that!

Looking forward to seeing December's report.

because the posting in lower, it SHOULD in theory be easier to find good content. I think with the way things are going we will find more and more 'part' content as apps like sharetosteem and steempress grow. This is not a bad thing for steem and it shows an entry to mainstream and we will have to suffer I think with bad content as this process happens

Really interesting post!
It's the first time I see this report.
Keep up the good work!
You have a new follower (I followed you some days ago)! ;)

Glad you like the report, and thanks for the follow and support.

Great information indeed! It is great to see how this progresses and how it compares to our own experiences.
