Five posts for the week, two more than the week prior. This week focused primarily on image and art plagiarism, with a range of topics covered from investigations to abuse-avoidance suggestions. This week's posts bring to light some serious issues and should be as widely read as possible. Remember, we read and verify all contributions for quality and precision.

Improving the Category

  • Continuing to provide tips to contributors to help with post optimization
  • Remaining available and approachable
  • Being open minded to new types of discovered abuse (ie. a new type of exploitation of Steem-based games or communities)

Scammers scam, that's just how it works. Scammers do their best to hide their scamming and to continue exploiting the ecosystem and the reward pool. They lie, hide, manipulate, use every trick they can think of. The amount of effort that goes into some of the types of abuse and fraud found in our ecosystem is staggering. One would figure that if they only put that level of effort into legitimately contributing original content, they would be incredible successful.

At times, their "easy money" schemes aren't all that easy at all. They're creative and cunning. This is why we, as the anti-abuse community and supporters, must be as creative as they are. We must see through their schemes and figure out their methods. Detecting novel exploitation attempts and encouraging those who partake in the identification and discovery of same is key to growing and improving on our contributions.

Optimization Tools for Contributors

  • Sketchpad - Make original art/graphics for your posts
  • Zapier - Bridge your tools to serve your anti-abuse community

Every week I'll change these up so watch this space.

Contributing to the Anti-Abuse Category

Everyone interested in anti-abuse is welcome to contribute. The type of contribution one would make would differ based on their interests and experience. A professional travel writer is going to likely tackle plagiarism or blatant spinning (paraphrasing and reordering to hide plagiarism) within the community of users who publish travel blogs. To each his own. The reason all anti-abuse projects exist is because we have a whole lot of passionate, caring users out there who see other excellent, hardworking users either get overshadowed or discouraged by the amount of fraud and spam out there.

The abuse that we see as normal users, browsing the frontends and looking through our feeds, is nothing based on what is actually out there. It's the tip of the iceberg. And its a pretty big iceberg. There is no shortage of abuse and topics that anyone can easily and logically define as "abuse". There is no shortage of scammers, ID thieves, text and art plagiarists, faucet farmers and the like. If one day there is so little to write about that the anti-abuse category runs dry, it will be a good day for the ecosystem. That day is nowhere near.
