Utopian Anti-Abuse Category Weekly Overview: 11-18 July 2019

in #utopian-io5 years ago

Good day for a @utopian-io community report.

Metrics: Week

Time period: 11-18 July 2019

  • 3 contributions processed, a great improvement over the last two weeks where only 1 per week was submitted
  • Mean score of 98 and median of 98
  • Highest score of 100 and lowest of 96

All contributions are scored fairly and impartially in accordance with Utopian policies and guidelines and incorporating a predefined set of questions specific to the anti-abuse category.

Contributions

Don't let the height of the bars fool you; these are all in the upper 90s range.

A high-scoring week with three contributions processed, all receiving excellent reviews for very good effort. Please note that while we as assessors submit to the category, we never review our own work or contribute to the review process of our own work in any way. All reviews are impartial.

Active Assessors for the Week

All hands on deck this week, each taking one contribution on to review.

Metrics: 2019

The highest month for contributions was April with 20 posts. July is at 1, being the lowest month so far.

The category wasn't around last summer and it's difficult to say if the low number of contributions are due to the holiday season and the general related slowdown.

The total sum of all 2019 contributions stands at 89 to date. (Four of those were subsequently rejected for various reasons but are still included in these numbers as having been received.) The rejections all happened earlier on and not in recent months, when the quality of contributions generally increased.

A total of 20 contributors made posts under the @utopian-io anti-abuse category so far this year. We are hoping to grow this number as more people find out about anti-abuse initiatives or formulate ideas for their own. This is up from the usual 19 as I finally made a contribution from my own account. Normally I write for the @steemcleaners and would post from there. This does mean that technically there are still only 19 unique contributors.

The top contributor is still @jaguar.force with 21 valid contributions. Thank you @jaguar.force for your consistency and dedication to the category and anti-abuse.

There are currently only three active assessors in the anti-abuse category, although over the lifetime of the category itself we had a total of five. This is just general attrition and people re-focusing elsewhere in their lives for necessity sakes and not due to anything to do with the anti-abuse category itself. It should not be taken as a reflection on Utopian or the category. [No change]

So far, a total of 4 contributions were rejected as wholly invalid for the category and were thus not assessed. This number hasn't changed from last week or the week prior and hopefully will not change in the future. We don't want to get invalid contributions. [No change]

This does not include contributions that were awarded a score of zero. A rejection and a low score are not the same thing. Rejections are not assessed, as aforementioned, but zero-scores are. [No change]

Good Contributions to the Anti-Abuse Category

A good contribution doesn't have to be on a particularly pressing anti-abuse subject to be relevant. For example, you don't have to write about investigating plagiarism or something where you've personally gotten your hands dirty and put yourself at risk. [No change]

A good contribution will typically have the following checked off:

  • The post will be interesting to read (you don't want to have the reader give up halfway through because of boredom)
  • The post will be by someone who knows the anti-abuse landscape of the Steem ecosystem
  • The writer will evidently care about the anti-abuse topic they are writing about
  • The post will have some helpful metrics or images to guide the reader
  • The post will strive to educate the reader on how to recognize abuse and empower them to fight it

Thoughts on Category

This week we finally pulled up both our contribution numbers and the scores attributed to the contributions. It's great to see high scoring posts that add a lot of value to the anti-abuse community and to the general ecosystem of the Steem blockchain. I hope that this trend continues and we see a consistent improvement in the number of contributions and in their quality.

It would also be great to see more diversity in terms of contributors. Nearly the entire anti-abuse community knows each other well and has worked together in one way or another for years now. Would be great to see "fresh blood" enter the stage, either part of an existing team or on their own. We are welcoming to new contributors and, speaking from my own perspective at least, would be grateful for their unique perspective.

The more diversity in the anti-abuse community and the anti-abuse category the better.

Hello, @guiltyparties! Thank you for the weekly report. Three contributions this week is a considerable improvement at least. I hope that the number of contribution keep rising over time. Some times I wonder, are some Steemian/Abuse fighter aware of this category? I think we need more abuse fighters.

Thank you for your weekly report. I look forward to your next overview.
