Utopian Anti-Abuse Category Weekly Overview: 13-20 June 2019

in #utopian-io5 years ago (edited)

Good day for a @utopian-io community report.

Metrics: Week

Time period: 13-20 June 2019

  • 5 contributions processed
  • Mean score of 74.8 and median of 94
  • Highest score of 98 and lowest of 0

All contributions were scored fairly and impartially in accordance with Utopian policies and guidelines and incorporating a predefined set of questions specific to the anti-abuse category.

Contributions

86@enforcer48@jaguar.forceRead Post
94@anthonyadavisii@jaguar.forceRead Post
98@guiltyparties@themarkymarkRead Post

We had a total of 5 contributions by 3 different authors. The fact that the same author submitted more than one contribution is fully acceptable considering that those contributions were different and added value to the anti-abuse community and to the general ecosystem in helping users combat abuse.

One contribution scored a zero because the author blatantly failed to read the helpful feedback left on his previous contributions. Because of that, the contribution had virtually nothing to do with combatting abuse or with anything remotely resembling abuse. On the contrary, it was misleading to readers in that it presented a tool from where to obtain free videos from but did not advise them that they still must source everything posted to the Steem blockchain for monetization. As thus, it gave them information which could lead them to inadvertently commit plagiarism.

Active Assessors for the Week

Metrics: 2019

The highest month for contributions was April with 20 posts; the lowest was January with 7. June is up to 12 so far and is looking to be pretty average as far as contributions go.

The total sum of all 2019 contributions stands at 85 to date. (Four of those were subsequently rejected for various reasons but are still included in these numbers as having been received.) The rejections all happened earlier on and not in recent months, when the quality of contributions generally increased.

A total of 18 contributors made posts under the @utopian-io anti-abuse category so far this year. This still stands true today. The top contributor is still @jaguar.force with 17 valid contributions, but @anthonyadavisii is closing in on them with his own 11 contributions. We hope we'll see more contributions from the other anti-abuse writers in the future as well as from new faces on the anti-abuse scene. [No change]

There are currently only three active assessors in the anti-abuse category, although over the lifetime of the category itself we had a total of five. This is just general attrition and people re-focusing elsewhere in their lives for necessity sakes and not due to anything to do with the anti-abuse category itself. It should not be taken as a reflection on Utopian or the category. [No change]

So far, a total of 4 contributions were rejected as wholly invalid for the category and were thus not assessed. This number hasn't changed from last week or the week prior and hopefully will not change in the future. We don't want to get invalid contributions. [No change]

This does not include contributions that were awarded a score of zero. A rejection and a low score are not the same thing. Rejections are not assessed, as aforementioned, but zero-scores are.

Every week I'll change these up so watch this space.

Good Contributions to the Anti-Abuse Category

A good contribution doesn't have to be on a particularly pressing anti-abuse subject to be relevant. For example, you don't have to write about investigating plagiarism or something where you've personally gotten your hands dirty and put yourself at risk. [No change]

A good contribution will typically have the following checked off:

  • The post will be interesting to read (you don't want to have the reader give up halfway through because of boredom)
  • The post will be by someone who knows the anti-abuse landscape of the Steem ecosystem
  • The writer will evidently care about the anti-abuse topic they are writing about
  • The post will have some helpful metrics or images to guide the reader
  • The post will strive to educate the reader on how to recognize abuse and empower them to fight it

Following Assessor Feedback

All contributors must read the helpful feedback left to them by the category assessors. The feedback is there for a reason. The feedback advises you of errors or possibilities for expansion of your topic. It helps you grow as a contributor. If you are not reading your feedback, we will know as the results of your inattention will be evident in your subsequent posts.

Use your feedback to your advantage. Write the next post ensuring that you plug the gaps that your assessor identified or follow opportunities suggested. The goal of your contribution is for you to educate the ecosystem about an abuse topic and empower them to fight it or be cognizant of it enough to avoid abusing themselves. The goal is not for you to make money off a Utopian vote. No vote will be granted for random posts vaguely disguised as anti-abuse posts.

Utopian and all of its categories and teams aim to maintain the highest standards of quality and dedication. That is why we take the time to read and evaluate every single contribution in detail. We take our time to write extensive feedback. That is for you, the contributor, to read and act upon as you see fit. If your contributions evidence your negligence, then you will receive a score that reflects that.

Hello, @guilyparties. Thank you for providing a very detailed overview of the anti-abuse category. Good to see that you added a new tip to guide the contributors on what to do with the accessor's comment and how to improve. It is sad that sometimes, some contributors don't care much about the review. I really hope that they find this report.

Your contribution has been evaluated according to Utopian policies and guidelines, as well as a predefined set of questions pertaining to the category.

If we want to keep the quality levels tip top then they either have to start caring or we have to 'encourage' them to care with our evaluations. Thanks for the feedback.
