A. Introduction
A lot of users on the Steem blockchain have so far been able to get to where they are currently through the various contests that were created by some benevolent users on the platform. There have been several writing contests, photography, food and lots more. I remember that I had participated in some of these contests in the past, especially those that have to do with writing. While they were useful, organization of some of these contests were quite poor.
This would likely not be attributed as a fault of the organizer. It can better be ascribed to the way the platform is set up. Steem as a platform is set up to look more like a social media/ content writing platform and as such, may not possess all that it takes to effectively and easily organize a successful contest. In this post, I will be talking about a dApp built on the Steem blockchain that gives you the organization you need to host your contests. This dApp is called the 1Ramp.
B. What is 1Ramp?
The 1Ramp platform is one among a teeming number of decentralized social media application built on the Steem blockchain. This platform gives its users the opportunity to create articles on it, interact with fellow members of the various communities and earn while doing what they know how to do best.
The kinds of content accepted on the platform includes articles, picture contents, blog posts, videos and others which are those of the users. When these contents are upvoted by other members of the platform, the owners as well as thos who upvote the posts are rewarded with cryptocurrency coins - Steem and SBD.
On 1Ramp, users can also earn by participating in contests and competitions held by other users of the platform. All you will need to do is to join in the contest and carefully follow the rules of the game.
C. The Contest Creation Modal
Creating a contest on the Steem blockchain through the 1Ramp platform has been made very easy and simple for intending users to follow through. Simply by clicking on a few buttons and entering the necessary information, you’d be on your way to creating your first contest on the Steem blockchain.
As at the time I tried my hands on one, it is noteworthy to say that the team had done a very good job. In the course of this article, I will put you through extensively on how to properly create a befitting contest on the Steem blockchain via the 1Ramp platform.
i. Creating your first contest.
1Ramp has provided its users with an easy way of creating contests through their platforms. If you use a laptop or desktop device, you can easily log into the platform via its website – alpha.1ramp.io to begin creating your contests. There is also a version for android users. Visit the google playstore to download your own copy of the 1Ramp Android app.
Once you are done, you need to sign up or sign into the platform. For existing users of the Steem blockchain, you can simply click on the log in button and finish your log in to the platform through the steem connect platform. If you do not have an account on the blockchain, visit Steemit.com to create your first account.
Logged in users can now click on the + (plus) button and choose the “create a contest” button to begin creating their first contest via the 1Ramp app. This action when I tried it, opened up another webpage. Here, you will need to input the name of the contest or competition you are organizing. The next space below is where you are expected to input the description of the contest you are organizing.
Under the description section, you should inform the potential contestants what the contest involves. For example, a writing contest on Utopian.io will inform contestants about the utopian dream, how it was founded and who founded it in the description section. Other little but important information can also be added.
The third section here is the Rules section. Here, you need to input the rules guiding the contest you are organizing. These rules should inform intending users of what they need to successfully get involved in the contest and what can disenfranchise them in the process.
Once you are done, simply click on the Next button below which will bring you over to the next page.
ii. Other important information
I have nicknamed the next page “other important information” as this is where you need to input the other necessary information. Here, the first thing you need to do is to choose the communities you wish to be involved in your contest. Your choices are limited to a maximum of three communities so you need to choose carefully.
After that, you have to appoint those that would judge and decide the final winners of the competition. Simply type in the names of the judges without the @ symbol. Once you are done typing the first, click on the space bar and the thumbnail of the user automatically appears. Do the same for the other judges involved. Judges are also limited to a maximum of three.
The next section is the timing section. Here, you have to choose and decide on how many how long the contest is expected to go on for. First, choose the start date and the start time. After that, you can now click the other tab to choose the end date as well as the end time for the contest.
iii. Prizes! Prizes!! Prizes!!!
Under the previous section, there’s the prizes section. Here, you need to outline the prizes that would be won by the individuals participating in your contest. As usual, this is just limited to the first three winners. Whatever price you input for these winners are what will be eventually handed out to them. At the top of the prizes section, there is the total prizes. There, you can see the sum total of all the prizes to be sent out to users.
Once you are done setting the prizes for your first three winners, you can now move on from there to set the competition banner. This is the image that would be attached to the blog post announcing the competition. After that, you can click on the next page which redirects you to the next page.
iv. Create contest and Announcement Blog
Here, you will be asked if you wish to create your contest and create a blog to announce the kickoff of your contest. Click on the “Create and Continue button” if you accept or click on the “Cancel” button to go back to the previous page. At this stage, if there are some necessary sections you left blank, you’d be shown an error signal in red at the bottom left of your screen and you have to go back to edit it. Else, your competition is created and you can finish up with creating the announcement blog.
The next page that opens up will give you a preview of what you have done so far and your announcement blog. It is now left for you to finish with the editing. If there are any other important information you may wish to add, now is the right time to do so. Once you are done editing your announcement blog, add all the necessary tags, and click on the “Publish and Register” button to post your announcement blog to the blockchain.
D. My Thoughts About the 1Ramp Contest Creation Modal
The contest creation modal by 1Ramp is a beautiful new functionality so far on the 1Ramp app. I think this would surely endear the app to owners of other Steem dApps, and members of the blockchain who create contests for users now and then. This contest creation modal is quite smooth and easy to use.
Even the dumbest individual can go through and use it without any issues. Good enough, there was no use of any bogus terms in the app thus making it easy to understand. However, I’d prefer that a red asterisk is put by the beginning of each important section so that potential users will know those that are very important or not.
E. Conclusion
The 1Ramp app and its developers have shown themselves to be people of great intelligence with the creation of this lovely feature on their app. With this contest creation feature, it is no doubt that 1Ramp is set to become one of the most popular dApps on the Steem blockchain. If you are yet to make use of this platform, endeavor to give it a trial as soon as possible.
I hope to see you on the next episode of this series. Enjoy the rest of your week.
I remain your amazing dApps presenter, @curtwriter.

Hello, @curtwriter!
Thank you for this contribution. This is another very informative blog post about 1Ramp, and you did a good job in providing useful information about the project. Keep up the good work.
On the content side, I have mixed feelings about your post. On the one hand I like all the information provided, but on the other hand I have to admit that I wanted to see more editorial content in your review. The post contains valuable information about the project, but tells the readers so little about your personal knowledge, views, suggestions and experience of using this tool.
That said, there were issues of style and proofreading, but not to the level where it hurt the readability of your text. To sum up, this was a solid overall effort, and I enjoyed reading your work.
I look forward to your next contribution.
