Translating Steem Whitepaper Genesis | English-Dutch | #6

Project details

My first project as a Davinci/Utopian translator was translating the Steem Whitepaper. You can read the final post here with links to all the translations I have done within that project. I noticed the Genesis Whitepaper had only been translated 37% of which no strings were yet proofread/confirmed on Crowdin.

The Genesis Whitepaper is interesting since it lays out all the initial thoughts on the Steem Blockchain, with the Whitepaper as I translated it before leaving out some aspects and/or tweaking some points due to gained insights. For me it's interesting to translate the Steem Whitepaper Genesis since the information is still fresh on my mind, meaning I will be able to translate quickly and do a little game of 'spot the differences'. By translating the Whitepaper I will also be reading the Genesis for the first time and I'm curious what I will learn.

Contribution

I've translated a little over a thousand words. There is a lot of overlap with the 'current' whitepaper, except in the Genesis Whitepaper they add some calculations about how to figure out bandwidth for users on the platform, and how to deal with surges or decreased activity, and explain the concept of mining.

To be continued

This is my sixth translation of the Genesis Whitepaper, and until now parts of the translated texts were overlapping with my previous translation work, while other parts of the text were new to me. The 'biggest' differences for the parts I translated today is the Genesis Whitepaper spoke about the future, where the second version of the whitepaper was already speaking about the past. Time flies on Steem!

Hey @altrosa, thank you for your contribution to the translation project for Davinci-Utopian!

Even though there are a lot of familiar sentences in this paper, it is important to stay consistent. Since you have experience translating the Steem Whitepaper, this seems to come natural to you. When we spoke about going through the older translations as well as the white paper to check if the both are consistent through and through, you showed initiative. This is something very rare in the 'real' translation world, where people work on assignments and nothing more.
However, this way of translating is something different from that, because the subject is close to the heart.

Either way, it's a joy to work with you.

Great job!
