ULOG: 26 Today's harvest + Failed camo
I've yet to get my fill of tomatoes. That could be because I'm only a few days into the tomato harvest. :D
The flowers are zinnias.
The bigger peppers are sweet Italian.
The smaller peppers are Hungarian wax.
A few of these ended up sliced in the frig.
A few of these ended up on the kitchen windowsill.
A few of these ended up in my belly!!!
Slice and dice some tomatoes.
Add a small handfull of grated cheese.
Add some Ranch with bacon dressing.
Add some salt and garlic.
Eat!
Notes from the garden.
The only bug I'm seeing is stink bugs.
- So after tonight's harvest, the plants got some more Sevin dust.
Huge cracks in the ground. We really need rain,. None in the forecast until maybe this weekend.
I'll be harvesting my potatoes soon.
The cantaloupe are starting to ripen! woohoo!
- A good thing I planted Hale's Best as they are supposed to be drought tolerant...
Failed camo.
Twice today I witnessed failed camo.
#1 Getting my coffee this morning a deer walked out south of the garden, on the other side of the fence. It was just walking around a bit, but it kept looking over it's shoulder. After a bit another walked out. I watched them while drinking about 1/2 a cup of coffee, then they walked back into the scrub brush.
#2 Running my tests at the swimming pool this morning, I ran across this beast.
It reminds me of a Yorkie. haha
I bet some places they travel, that coloration is a great camo.
It was a camo fail when it's on concrete...
This pic is worth blowing up if you have that capability. Quite amazing creature!
It motivated pretty fast.
I sent this pic to my Mom, since she had my grandson for the day.
He thought it was cool!!!
It reminded her of when she was a kid and someone put a caterpillar in his mouth. Evidently they can sting you and make your tongue swell so big it sticks out of your mouth! haha

LOVE your harvest. Beautiful zinnias, peppers and luscious tomatoes!!! Interesting bug from afar but can't stand them. ;)
Also Thanks for breaking down the Byteball rewards. I haven't seen that anywhere else. Did read that 80% or some such is locked for a year so peeps don't get to pull it all out at once. Can you confirm as not covered anywhere else I've seen mention the airdrop.
And NO... I was not Blessed with fresh today-harvested tomatoes. Probably need to grow some to be sure I have regular supply of that. ;)

I've not studied it a lot. I think it may be 50% locked for 1 year.
Thanks. The wife likes Zinnias. Mom said they always had some growing for fresh flowers on the table. (Well, at least in summer and fall...)
The world would be a happier place if more people had home grown garden fresh tomatoes! :D

We just had some zucchini, onions and potatoes from our garden as part of our dinner tonight. Pretty tasty stuff. Still waiting on the tomatoes, though the cherry tomatoes have been coming on pretty good.
I think I like my tomatoes with some mayonnaise and that's it. It's been a while since I've eaten them like that, though.
Haven't seen a whole lot of bugs in the garden, though they're no doubt there. Plus, we've had the bees out, which is good, I'd say.
Nice looking cantaloupe. That's the one fruit I wish we had. Our watermelon is now somewhere between a baseball and a golf ball. :)
Well, all I can say about the camo failures is at least it works part of the time. There's certainly places in the world I know my camo wouldn't work either, though I'm virtually invisible around here. :)
Have you ever tried Spin Blend? Walmart sells it here now. That's what I grew up using instead of Mayonnaise... Of course, my favorite way to eat tomatoes is in the garden, letting the juice run down my chin! haha If you've never tried Sun Gold cherry tomatoes, I highly recommend them for their superb taste!!!

The invisibility happens a lot. I'm also inaudible, too, apparently, so even if I'm making noise, I can't be heard or seen.
I've driven a late model RX-8, and a late model Chevy Camaro and have people pulling out in front of me just like I was driving the Sonata or the Altima. I'll be talking to one of my family members and they'll totally ignore anything I've said, or they'll turn to talk to someone else.
Young people are the worst at that. Maybe I warp reality. Or they do.
I've never heard of Spin Blend. Don't frequent Walmart. I've had Miracle Whip, and like it—that's what I grew up on—but my wife prefers the 'real' stuff and so that's what I've eaten.
We might have the Sun Golds. I really don't keep track of makes and models of produce. The ones we have are pretty flavorful, though, especially when eaten straight from the garden not yet rinsed. I am a thrillseeker, I know.
All our potatoes have been pretty small, but I think that's okay for the kind we have. They're not russets. I haven't had an onion outside of what was in the zucchini concoction my wife made, but they do let you know they are around when you walk by.
We haven't had any rain since mid-June, but that's fairly typical for us. Normally, though, we're not in the mid-90s for most of the mid-to-late July. That's supposed to be August.
You and I agree on the melons and the order, though my wife can typically find better tasting cantaloupe than she can watermelon. Don't know why they're so tricky, but apparently they are.
