Getting started with DeepOnion
If you still don't know what DeepOnion is and why is it my favorite coin, you should check out my some of my previous posts. Since I believe that DeepOnion is not just a speculative currency, but has a real value, I would like to provide some tutorial for newbies about how to use DeepOnion. So, let's go.
Installing the Software
At first, we'll need a wallet software, which DeepOnion's development team was kind enough to provide for every OS. Installation on Windows and Mac is quite simple, just download the file from the official website and execute. For Linux, you'll need to build it from source, for that follow the tutorial.
After the installation run the program and wait for it to sync with blockchain. DeepOnion Wallet will connect to Tor network by default, so don't need to do anything.
Take care of safety!
After first launch a new wallet will be generated for you, which may be seen in "Receive coins" section. since we're going to store our funds here, let's don't be lazy and do some backups.
Export .dat file
DeepOnion provides a very easy-to-use option to export all your wallets in a single file. Just go to "File"->"Backup Wallet" and save the .dat file. I'll recommend to store it somewhere out of you PC.
Export private keys
The wallet.dat file's backup must be enough, put prefer to control the private key, so if you're a paranoid like me, let's export the private keys too:
- Go "Help" -> "Debug window" -> "Console"
- Type command:
dumpprivkey <Your Address> - Copy the private key from output. Later you'll be able to import your private key with command:
importprivkey <Private Key>
Get some free $ONIONS
Surprise! Yes, you can receive some free $ONIONS from DeepOnion Faucet. Though, its nor much, but it's free and its good to test and get started. Copy your address from DeepOnion wallet, visit deeponion.space and input your address here. You'll receive some $ONIONS within an hour ;)

Thanks for this tutorial, the unavailability of android version of deeponion is limiting many from joining the deeponions network.
The Android Wallet is under development and in the testing phase right now. Some select few have the App and I have seena demo of them using it to buy merchendise from the DeepOnion shop. Don't worry it will come soon!

These private anonymous coins must be a riskier investment than the public blockchain coins.

I think anonymous cryptocurrencies are much more stable during government loud announcements and regulations. Also, it's much more secure given that your data is not available to anyone who wants.
Governments will try to regulate cryptomarkets and the anonymous cryptos will be illegal.
Maybe yes, but I don't think any crypto may be illegal :) It's like making internet or Tor illegal.
