We are our own enemies.
Most of us are fully aware that we have been enslaved at this point. Who our masters are, however, is a question that far less are able to agree upon.
Many will have you believe that it's the governments of this world holding the proverbial whip. This can't be true though. They have presented us with a great number of statutes that we can choose to adhere to or not. Our ignorance in confusing acts for laws, and consequently allowing ourselves to be governed by non-laws that we don't even agree with, does not amount to slavery- only laziness and stupidity.
Perhaps even more will tell you that it's not the government, but the corporations, who control what all the world's governing bodies do through lobbying(legalized bribery). This can't be true either. Sure, the corporations are essentially writing legislation at this point, but again, that legislation can only be used to govern us with our consent, and as far as I can see, the corporations are not forcing us at gun point to consume their products. We still have a choice, at the moment.
No. The corporations are not forcing us to perpetuate this system of modern slavery either. But neither is it a group of ancient families, or Jesuits, or Jews, Freemasons, or the Illuminati. I see none of these communities dragging you out of bed by your hair and forcing you to participate in a system that breeds poverty and mass suffering. You can't even blame this shit on the devil, for it's even said that he possesses merely the power to tempt, and it is us who then has to make the choice on whether to give in to that temptation, or to rise above it.
No, my friends. None of the above possess the power to breathe life into such a system. They may have found themselves at the helm of this ship, but you and I are the wind beneath the sails, providing them with the power to direct society as they see fit. For this world exists as it does only because of us. If not for our belief that we are owed something from this world, and that we deserve our slice of the pie, then this ship would come to a halt by days end.
It is our sense of entitlement and our desire to have more than our peers, or more than we need, that fuels the unstoppable vehicle we call modern society towards its destination; a digital dictatorship. We will continue to oppress ourselves and each other until the moment we realise this is not a game. It sure looks like one, and that is by malicious design. But, you cannot win a game without creating losers; so in a game where losers end up dead or on the streets, one should think twice before playing.

I have a feeling that by the time we realize it ain't a game, it's going to be far too late :/
It's a common feeling, but one I think they are likely to have given us. Figuring out how to purge this feeling of doubt and replace it with one of empowerment, is probably one of the best uses one could find for their time in today's world. I shall have to write more empowering things.
