Tree Tuesday - Let me Introduce you to Spiky the Punk Tree !!

in #treetuesday6 years ago

There is one particular thing that i enjoy immensely and that is even though you are living in the huge populated city of Bangkok you are never to far from anywhere to escape the concerte jungle of the city , you can jump on the city skytrain and it will take you through the city to the outer skirts of the city and while riding on the skytrain you can observe the landscape from above and choose to get of at the next stop if you have spotted something interesting like a huge patch of green representing a huge park land and believe me there are many huge green patches you can spot from above when your riding up high in a skytrain.

So here i was riding on the skytrain in Bangkok i had spotted my huge patch of green lush landscape and i was getting of at the next stop to go and investigate upon arriving at this huge park i enter through the main gate i thought to myself which path should i choose to walk down first ok i said i am right handed so lets go right of i when and not far down the path i run into this tree i called it "Spiky the Punk Tree" and i thought i had seen it all check this out i said to myself.

I have seen thorns on rose bushes but never on a tree , apparently this tree is part of the family trees called Sacred Ceiba Trees that mainly grow in Guatemala well this fella was a long way from home but it was nice to see another unusual tree that had made it safely to Bangkok.

On inspecting this tree closer up and feeling and touching these thorns i was thinking maybe they would be soft like rubber maybe but no way what was i thinking they felt like real harded steel nails you wouldn't want to fall or be pushed on to the trunk of this tree it would be like falling on a bed of nails that's some serious spikes going on there.

These Sacred Ceiba Trees in Guatemala jungles are known to grow very tall up to 70 meters in height and can be 300 to 200 years old this one here is only a baby one and will probably be pruned like a Bonsai tree to stay at a certain height. There are many ethnohistorical references to the ceiba tree as been a giant tree upholding the world that's why i assume it is known as the Sacred Ceiba Tree.

Botanists tend to call these spikes , stem emergences but it is more ethical to call them conical spines or conical thorns me i would call them a bed of dangerous nails. Well we learn something every day if i had not decided to get of at that train station i would of never seen or known anything about this Sacred Ceiba Tree so today was another interesting learning thing about the creativity of mother nature and what a interesting tree this really is i do like the two color leaf effect it does give it more credibility.
