Hello from Ohio! What an appropriate place to be, while compiling the weekly America round-up. Our first article this week will take us on a beautiful mountain hike near Seattle. Next up, another hike, but with a more historic focus, about mines in Costa Rica. And we'll finish this round-up by admiring some crumbling glaciers in Alaska.

With high hopes we drove 90 minutes out of Seattle onto the Mountain Loop Highway to the trailhead. The trail itself is relatively easy-moderate at 5.4 miles and 1350 ft elevation gain. The trail is one of the better kept trails regionally, and features many beautiful rock stairs and wooden platforms that keep things entertaining throughout as you hike up to the lake.

The John Hopkin's glacier is a real beauty. It stands around 200 feet tall from the water's surface and stretches back up into the mountains nearly 12 miles. We went to Glacier Bay in 2012 as well, but we weren't able to see this glacier.
