Flashback wedding anniversary trip to Copenhagen

in #travelfeed5 years ago

It's coming to the end of August, and this is a flashback wedding anniversary post of when we went to Copenhagen, Denmark a few years ago. The Danes are famous for their sleek designs, and Copenhagen is a foodies heaven. It was a long weekend that was bound to happen sooner or later.

Needless to say, I couldn't get a table at Noma, nor Geranium. Luckily AOC entertained me for my wedding anniversary dinner. For those who aren't familiar with the Copenhagen gourmet scene, Geranium is one of the city's best restaurant and the only one that holds 3 Michelin star today. AOC on the other hand, is one of the three restaurants that holds 2 stars in the city. I'm not going to review restaurants today, but I might slip a a few food photos in. You never know.

Being a first timer to Copenhagen, I did a few of the typical touristy things - apart from the most famous Mermaid. I have nothing against The Mermaid, but my friend went to see it and said it was a quite far away from downtown. She also sid it was quite small and she nearly walked passed and missed it. I'm not a "gotta see and do everything" type of tourist so wasn't too bothered about not seeing it especially since I only had Sunday as the full day in Copenhagen.

Have said that, Sunday isn't normally the best day to go sight seeing as it seems a lot of places are closed, or closed early. We had to rush around to see as much of Christiansborg Palace as we could because the area was quite big. I can't be sure, but I think these city views was taken from one of the buildings at the Palace.

And unlike Buckingham Palace in London, the Royal family doesn't live at Christiansborg Palace. I think maybe that's why they opened up a lot more rooms for visiting.

We were strolling around town on Monday morning, wallking around aimlesssly as you do when you don't have plan. Suddenly we saw this impressive old tower. It wasn't time for lunch yet and we figured this was a great place to kill time. Well, we got more than expected. Turns out this is the Round Tower. It was built in the 17th century and is currently the oldest functioning observatory in the Europe. Of course I didn't know this at that time.

Neither did I know I had to walk a spiral staircase up the 36 meter tall tower. I kept on walking and walking and walking, like there was no end to this. I had no idea how far and how high I was. Until finally I got to the top.

The view at the top of the Round Tower was breathtaking. Similar to the view from Christiansborg Palace on the previous day, but more intimate, if you know what I mean. No? I was much closer to the rooftop of the buildings below me, so far yet so near.

Back inside, I went to peep down the Hollow Core. This is a hole that drops 25m, and for those who are brave enough you can even stand on the glass floor. That excluded me of course. The Hollow Core is significant because it is Denmark's point zero, the starting triangulation point used to map out Denmark in 1760.

On the way back down the tower, I stopped by the Library Hall half way down. Given the the history of the building, I was expecting to see some exhibition about the tower's history blah blah blah... Nope. It was something totally different from another world. There was an Exhibition called Dark Angels, a fashion show by Peachoo + Krejberg. This was a Parisan based fashion house - for connoisseurs - were how they were described. It was quire surreal suddenly seeing something so powerful inside such an old building.

During my weekend in Copenhagen, I wandered around some other places, such as the Tivoli Gardens, the Central Station and some other randoms places. Oh, I went to Nyhavn as well, even I wouldn't miss that!

Wow, so beautiful! I would like to visit Copenhagen one day too, I think all the Scandinavian countries are super pretty * ___ *

Great photos, LUT~ I love the sudden fashion show, tbh~ :D

I think the Scandanavian countries, particularly the Danes are so cool and stylish. Every one look so immacuately sytlish on the street, make us Brits look really shabby :-(

Thanks for visiting spidey!!

Perfect presentation of the city. Nice warm colors

Thanks @jzn. Not quite enough sadly, only had a long weekend there, wish I had more time, but then, that's an excuse to go back again!

Another favourite city where I spent a lot of time in the mid 2000s.
My particular favourite place being a Modern Design Museum who proper name escapes me.
Very happy memories and lovely to see your photos to remind me. Thank you :-)

You're welcome Nathen. I wish I had time to visti more places, I'm sure their design museum would be ultra sleek, their stuff is so cool.

What were you doing out there? Work or pleasure?

Pleasure. I was seeing a girl there but that came about because I was fascinated with Hans Christian Andersen after played him in an amateur production in about 1990 so Id always wanted to see Tivoli gardens and other connected places. The little mermaid was so disappointing lol.

Really lovely little city though and loved flying in and seeing the wind farm in the ocean.

Another on the list to go back to!
