Travel Blog 37: Thrills And Chills at Ferrari World, Abu Dhabi

in #travelfeed6 years ago (edited)

As a theme park enthusiast, no one leaves Abu Dhabi without visiting the one and only Ferrari World in the heart of Yas Island. This island was built with multi-purpose like for leisure, shopping, and entertainment focus. This island is reachable by car, plane or by a boat. Most tourists visit this island by a car ride within half an hour away from Abu Dhabi's city center.

Even though Yas Island fills with a plethora of action-packed activities, Ferrari world is surely the highlight. This indoor amusement park showcased spectacular assemblages of exceptional Ferrari's car models and offers a mixture of attractions suitable for all ages. You'll find different rides like the thrilling world's fastest roller-coaster, flying aces or leisure rides that are perfect for families. If you love cars and the thrills from roller-coasters, you will absolutely be in love with this place.

Besides knowing that Ferrari World is the largest theme park in the UAE, it is just situated right beside of the Formula One circuit. Since I am a big F1 fan, realizing I'll be able to have a view of the track excites me. Upon arriving, you'll easily spot the theme park because you can then identify the enormous crimson red roof with a massive Ferrari logo painted on it.

Before deciding to visit this place, we did some research online. Focuses on the prices, attractions, and likewise which day is best to visit. From what we knew, the regular entrance fee is 225AED. Since we didn't want to queue too long for an attraction, we purchased a silver pass. A silver pass allows us to hop on a fast track without queuing for three attractions at 360AED/person.

Since we knew this is a famous attraction, we arrived early at the theme park to avoid the crowd. However, to my surprise, the crowd is literally overwhelming that I had to take a step back to find my peace. Honestly, we couldn't imagine if it's on a public holiday or a weekend visit. We headed directly to the fastest roller coaster as we expected that there will be a crowd.

Unfortunately, it was closed for maintenance and will be available only in the afternoon. So, in the meantime, we took a stroll and admire the surrounding. Starting with the Ferrari museum where different unique designs of Ferrari is being displayed.

Next thing you know after taking a million photos at the gallery, we decided to go on our first roller coaster ride which is the 'Flying Aces'. To my surprise, it is also my first and my favorite ride in the entire amusement park.

IMG_4019.JPG

Before I went boarded on the roller-coaster, I thought it's just a small ride and it shouldn't be that scary. After the ride, it completely changed my mind. I was absolutely wrong about the definition of scary.

'Flying Aces' is claimed to be the highest rollercoaster loop on the planet. Inspired by the legendary ‘ace of aces’ aviator, Count Francesco Baracca, Flying Aces is a rollercoaster like no other. This rollercoaster includes a military bi-plane with a scale of 63 meters height at a spectacular 51-degree incline. The rollercoaster flies through the highest loop with a swift speed of 120km/h. You can definitely feel your pulse race through your bloodstream while you scream on top of your lung. Honest speaking, this is definitely not for any faint-hearted. If you really want to play it, play it at your own risk!

After the crazy first ride, we continued with our crazy rollercoaster marathon. From Fiorano GT Challenge where you race your friends on twisting parallel tracks on a Ferrari F430 Spiders. The race includes a furious hairpin turns and accelerating of up to 95km/h. Then we continue we indoor coaster 'The Turbo Track' that rises 64m above ground level at 102km/h with two zero gravity experiences.

We then took a break to tour around miniature Italy where everything is so perfectly sculptured and well-explained through the model landmarks. However, if you're into knowing the histories behind Ferrari, you definitely should check out the 'Made in Maranello' where you get to go on in-depth tour of the Ferrari factory. Discover how a Ferrari GT is made from the initial design to the entire manufacturing process.

When you're hungry, head down to the Italy lane for some pasta or pizza. The environment is surrounded by Italian's influenced decorations. At times, you almost forgot that you're not in Italy but Abu Dhabi.

Also, never forget to order yourself the signature Italian gelato to kill the heat. Refresh yourself and get going for the next thrilling ride. After the break, we warmed up by having a ride the go-kart and then head directly to the Formula Rossa where the fastest roller-coaster is.

Before entering, riders have to wear special goggles to protect your eye from the blasting air and sands. As from what I know, the roller coaster initiates with a hydraulic launch with the same speed when a plane takes off from the ground speeding up to the sky. With the great acceleration speed from 0 to 240km/h within 5 seconds definitely gives you an adrenaline rush to every inch of your body. The thrill is seriously no joke especially when the wind blasted on your face and your body as if you're be flying to the sky without any protective handles that wrap around your body.

Check out the ride here in this video:

As a summary, this is definitely worth a visit even though you're not the biggest fan of roller coaster ride. You'll definitely change your perception on roller coasters after these thrilling rides here.

I have a love/hate relationship with roller coasters, but it sounds like you had an amazing experience! And that gelato looks totally delish (yes, that's what caught my eye - LOL).

Honestly, I used to hate roller coasters because I wasn't good with height. Since a few years ago, I was strongly encouraged to try on roller coasters, then, I felt in love with the excitement! Also, the gelato, I had 2 hahaaha, cos I'm addicted to ice-cream.

LOL! I hear that - this is usually my reaction to ice cream...

Looks fantastic. Been living here in UAE for 12 years but haven't been there. Thanks for the photos, hope one day i will be able to see it for real.

You definitely should. I am pretty sure you're going to like it :)

Looks you had a blast! For sure I wouldn’t have tried the flying aces! It would have ruined my day!
When we go to theme parks I am the one who will guard the bags while the others are enjoying the roller coasters!

Absolutely. I had so much fun over there. I am able to ride that crazy roller coaster multiple times by skipping the queue. The silver pass I got was totally worth it. Thanks for dropping by :)

Dayam @explorernations. That 'Flying Aces' ride looks sic as we might say in Southern California. Or like it would make you sick. Lol.

We have about a 2 hour drive north to Magic Mountain. There you can find the Xtreme and X2. The X scared the living snot out of me. Sounds like fun. :)

OMG! I've heard of that, one of my friend told me about it. He says it's one of the scariest roller coaster he ever been. That makes me want to try it so badly!
