Travelmemories: Munnar, India

in #travel8 years ago (edited)

Visiting Munnar in February this year was a very beautiful experience for me. The town is surrounded by tea plantations, lakes, wildlife and tiny villages and temples hidden between the hills.

I like this photography a friend I met there took of me

The area of Munnar has a very calm and gentle atmosphere. It is worth to stay because you can do so many beautiful hikes and the people are welcoming and friendly. I think it has also to do with the religious tolerance they practice in daily life because a mosque as, a Christian church and a Hindu temple are build next to each other all within the little town.

This is the mosk in Munnar.

The entrance of the Hindu temple and the temple itself are decorated very colourful.

This is the view I had after visiting the temple. In the background you can see the cross on top of a church.

I remember the beautiful smell of the air in Munnar because people sell flower necklaces(not just plastic ones but mainly real ones) for the temples at every corner.

The perfume of the fish market is intense too. :D

You can find all kinds of good and tasty vegetables at the market.

The women in the tea plantations work very hard. I got told that they earn about 300 rupees a day, which is 4.50 US Dollar. They cut the tea with huge scissors and collect the leaves in bags that are very heavy.

Before lunchbreak all the leaves are collected and repacked into bigger bags to check the weight.

Friendly cows hang out at the plantations too.

This is a view on the town Munnar.

The trident symbolizes Shiva. The three prongs represent the three main nadis: sushumna, ida and pingala.

On this little temple you can see Shiva and his wife Parvati, their sons Kartikeya and elephant-headed Ganesha.

Picture I took from the bus when driving up to Top Station, a viewpoint close to Munnar.

This is me at Top Station. There is another viewpoint there which is supposed to have the best view, but they charge money for it, so I did not go there.

This goat enjoyed the view too.

Me, taking a rest in the sun.

Beautiful impressions! I can see that you love the nature.

Thank you. Here is another one :)

India is one of the places i want to travel!!!Great photos!!

I can totally recommend you to go. I miss India a lot. :) Thank you :)

Munnar reminded a lot of the tea stations at Nuwara Eliya in Sri Lanka - I like your final lie down in the tea plantations - an excellent photographic composition :)

Cheers, it was taken by the same friend who took the first one :) The tea plantations are so nice and calm and a real rest for the eyes with all this green. :)

Agreed. To me Munnar & Nuwara Eliya both had that toy-town ambience with a rose-tinted English country village feel to them - though they came with a disorienting surrealist edge too ;)
