Walk through the lanes and absorb the history at 'Talat Noi' (ตลาดน้อย)

in #travel6 years ago

What is up Steem fam!

A while back I had a chance to go with some friends to visit this area in Bangkok called 'Talat Noi'. I have heard a lot of this area on the online world lately. People did reviews a lot on the place so we're so curious and wanted to check it out.

Talat Noi (ตลาดน้อย)

Talat Noi is a historic neighbourhood in Bangkok. It roughly occupies the area of the subdistrict of the same name in Samphanthawong District. Located on the periphery of Bangkok's Chinatown, Talat Noi has been home to various ethnic Chinese communities since soon after the foundation of Bangkok. Talat Noi has a long history since before the founding of Bangkok. -Wikipedia

That's probably get people all excited. Once we went there, even as a Thai person like myself, I found this place pretty exotic. I don't see something like this so often in Thailand.

Walking through Talat Noi sois

Soi means lanes (You gotta remember this word if you will be here someday)

We're walking through all these lanes and pretty much just checking out how people live around there. A lot of houses / building are pretty much old-fasioned Chinese style. Pretty small and I believe, they live in houses with quite a few of family members.

Part of me is Chinese so yes, my family is pretty much Chinese family and we do live the same way. A few levels building with a few rooms. Big family of more than 10 people live all together. Can't be warmer than this! LOL

Work where you live

I know a lot of you may find this a bit funny or scary even. To live upstair and downstairs has some business running. We're so used to this in Thailand as a lot of small family businesses are all like that.

Wheeled vendors

You may find this interesting as well. (Why do I think for people here?? LOLOL). We actually have many of these all over the country as we're famous for our street food. Here's a street fruit vendor !

Wait.. What?

These types of street vendors is designed for those who has low budget to not have to pay rent and to also be able to go wherever they feel like going and selling their products. They walk all days! I love support all these vendors as I know I support them without going through the middle man and oh man, most of the time, they sell it so reasonable price.

These are stink beans.

Have you seen? Have you tried?

Chao Zhou Shi Kong (ศาลเจ้าโจ๋วซือก๋ง)

We as Thai-Chinese people do believe in these buddhist stuffs. In the area with long history, of course, they have such an old Chinese temple since many years ago.

This one in Talat Noi called 'Chao Zhou Shi Kong'. Located just right by the Chao Phraya river (famous one in Bangkok).

The temple was just real quiet when we went. We're actually the only people there.

Then we really didn't do much just strolling around and checking out all these old building and sneak a peek in all the small alleys. Oh! We found this little kitty. I'm not a fan of cat but my friends sure are.

The first SCB in Thailand

Ohhhhhh!!! Yesssss! I love all the FIRST everything in this world. It just sounds legend. This one is our first Siam Commercial Bank in Thailand.

Siam Commercial Bank (ธนาคารไทยพาณิชย์), the first bank in Thailand, was informally established in 1904 as "Book Club". According to the Bank of Thailand, it is Thailand's fourth largest commercial bank in terms of total assets, deposits, and loans. - Wikipedia -

How excited!!!! and we're there when it's already closed LOLOL

I love the bodega :) .. and also the mobile vendor hehe. The bananas look very tasty. They will not be allowed here in the EU (something to do with the size and shape) but they don't know what they're missing :)

Also, all beans stink ;)

If you think all beans you have tried stink, you wouldn't be able to take this one.
