Oldtown Bangkok - Street Art, Temples and Architecture

in #travel7 years ago

Not long ago my friend and I went on an all-day walk to the old-town of Bangkok, which lies in the western suburbs of the city. The area has a lot more Thai-style architecture, low rise buildings and some fantastic street art dotted all over the place.I would like to share my friend - Mr T (no not the one from the A-Team) and I's discoveries along our exploration of the old-town. The area has a lot more character than the popular downtown areas of Sukhumvit and Silom, where the party goers tend to flock towards.

Street Art

I am an avid fan of street art and I was presented with several eye-opening pieces along our journey. The day of our trip was an absolute scorcher, so I took most of the photos in a bit of a rush, but I hope some of these shots do justice promoting some of the fantastic talent Bangkok is blessed with!

Temples

It is always a pleasure to visit the unique and beautiful temples in Thailand, I find them absolutely fascinating and we came across a few nice little stop offs during are walk in the blazing Sun. The beautiful buildings gave us a nice chance to have a rest and time to admire the various building that caught our eyes! Another aspect that I love about the temples is the peaceful atmosphere, I find they really help my mind escape the non-stop hyper-speed of Bangkok life.

Architecture

As I mentioned at the start of this article, the western district of Bangkok has the authentic Thai feel to it, which is what most would picture when they think of Thai architecture. The authentic origins of the old town are still mostly going strong, whereas in Mr T and I's neighbourhood the only Thai-style architecture you will see is at a temple and there aren't too many of those about in our neck of the woods. It was a great trip out for the day and you see so much more when you are on foot, given the opportunity to see all the fine details that are missed when utilising any other form of transport.

Our walk in the blazing heat over the 'Old Town' was more than worth and is all within distance of the ever so popular backpacking street of Khao San Road. It has totally different feel to the supercharged zones of the city centre, with a super laid-back vibe, plenty of coffee shops and old Thai shop houses to purchase refreshments to quench your thirst along the walk.

Thank you so much for checking out my blog, if you enjoyed this and would like to see more of Thailand feel free to swing by my page when you have a moment free.

Yeah, Bangkok is full of tasty treatz, I will keep my eyes peeled and post some more when I get a chance!

Excellent post, @theexplorer! We walked quite a bit around Bangkok during our time there, but we never encountered these beautiful murals. It just shows just how this city will always have something to surprise you with, no matter how many times you visit it!

Thanks, I will be swinging by to see what you guys have been up to! There is always more to see at every place we visit! I wish I could go travelling again and I wish my saving for a DSLR could begin, think it will have to be next month!

We just recently bought a DSLR and still have a lot to practice with it, but so far we are very glad we made the purchase. The photo quality is much better than smartphones or regular cameras. Hope you'll buy it soon, too!

The elephants are so cool! That pic alone is worth a post. Wow. Does your friend have a mohawk?

Yeah, but he was getting to much attention, so he shaved it off for a covert mission.

Those elephants are cool, why aren't these famous!- surprised i haven't seen them before.

Yeah, there is some amazing street art around, but I always forget where I saw it!

That street art is awesome. The elephants really look good on that old building :)

Always good to have some kind of device to document the street art around! The elephant piece was amazing, it must of taken ages to do!
