Amateur Adventures #58: My Top 5 Travel Adventures in Photos - Part 5 - Jordan

Hello Steemians

Well it's actually been quite difficult choosing my top 5 travel adventures, (they were in no particular order) and now I'm at the last one it was a really hard call.

But given my childhood crush on Indiana Jones, there really was only one choice in the end.

I have always been a mad Indiana Jones Fan and one of my favourite movies was Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. There was no way that travelling through the Middle East would leave out Jordan. I always imagined what it would be like to stand there - staring up at that famous building carved into the rose red rocks.

It turns out there was so much more to Jordan than I had ever imagined. I hope you enjoy some of these amazing places and get to see them one day.

Wadi Rum - following in the footsteps of Lawrence of Arabia

Another classic movie I love is Lawrence of Arabia and Wadi Rum is best known, at least to westerners for it's connection to the British officer who passed through there several times, during the Arab Revolt of 1917. The valley, cut into the surrounding sandstone and granite is also known as The Valley of The Moon and is the largest wadi in Jordan.

Bedouins still camp in the wadi and you can stop and have tea and try to barter for some of their wares (they don't really bargain though)

At all times of the day the changing colours, the drifting sands are a sight to behold.

Jerash - A Roman Ruin

I'd never heard of Jerash prior to visiting Jordan - but it is an amazing example of Roman ruins. It's often overshadowed by the fame of Petra, but it really is worth the time to visit. It is actually the second most visited site in Jordan. But usually added after people arrive as it is only a day trip from the capital Amman.

It's an impressive site - well preserved and large with paved streets, colonnades and hill top temples.

Petra - Search for the Holy Grail

But of course the crowning glory is the lost "Rose City", amazing at any time of the day. The changing colours, stumbling out of the canyon to be greeted by the towering Treasury Building. I was transfixed for maybe 30 minutes just staring - in awe that - finally - I was actually standing in front of this amazing building, and marveling at the effort to have carved it into the rock. It's mind-blowing. And even more so when you climb the mountain to find The Monastery - an equally impressive building carved into the rock at the top of 900 grueling stairs.

Stay tuned to see where the next adventure takes us.

Til then, Steem on in love and light
