Workshop Visit - Inside the MWCMADEIT Workshop

My work has become such an integral part of my life that it’s become almost indistinguishable between everyday life and work itself. I guess it’s a good thing to be so passionate about your job and wake up everyday raring to go, but at the same time you need to be aware of the balance that exists and make sure you keep yourself in check so that you don’t burn out and still cherish the everyday moments in life. In this regard when I’m travelling I make sure I have a few rest days doing something not connected to work, but I also like to meet a craftsman of some sort to keep relationships strong and try to understand their process and let it inspire my own work.

When I was in America recently I was able to visit the workshop of a woodworker based in Columbus, Ohio named Khyle Ford who specialises in making furniture. I’m working on a small collection of woodwork for my shop at OEN and we had a chat about this project. It was also great to take a tour of his workshop and I thought you might like to look at here too. Even though it wasn’t his work day I took a few pictures of the work space and some of him making, I think it gives you an idea of how he makes and the overall aesthetic of his work.

I really like Kyle’s work as he uses a combination of metal and wood in combination. Although his work is a little rustic in style he has been able to combine both modern and traditional elements that should make sure this work will stand the test of time. You should definitely check out his website if you would like to see more. In the future I hope to bring you more imagery from inside the workshops of many other craftsmen. Enjoy!
