Exploring Venice - Views from Above St Mark's Square

In every city you seem to have these tall towers now that try to give you a glimpse of the whole city. I'm in two minds about them. On one hand they can give you an overview of the different areas of the city and make you feel like you have your bearings in a new space. Some of the more modern ones are way too high and are not quite the same experience as the older towers that make you feel more connected to the city below.

I think my favourite tower of all has to be the one in Copenhagen called Vor Frelsers Kirke, or the “Church of Our Savior", which is one of Denmark's most famous churches. Ever since 1752 it has been a popular to climb the 400 steps to the top of the spire. The steps up to the top are wooden and old, once at the top you can feel the wind and the shake in the tower, which is a little scary but makes for an unforgettable experience haha

So when in Venice I wanted to make the effort to go up another tower so I could get a better view of St Mark's Square. To be honest I wasn't expecting much but I found it a nice experience and great to feel the wind rushing through the metal webbing on the side of the tower. It not only gives good views of the square but also of the whole city which I wasn't prepared for. Amazing to see how dense it is and how many houses that are cramped together. Just think of all the history! So good. I hope you like these photos, maybe they give you a better idea of Venice from above. Enjoy.

Thanks so much for the resteem and comment. Hope you can go one day :)

I always hesitate to go on towers to view a city because it tends to get really crowded with tourists and it becomes hard to take great pictures. But you really captured them well! Ahhh, It looks like such a dreamy place! Love the orange rooftops :)

Great travel, I was there once and it was in august, everything was crowded and there was rush hour on the canals so we stayed on land. Some of the back alleys were much more interesting than the very crowded main ones.
Very good photos, that amount of sun would fry me sun cream or not.
