Exploring Melbourne - Street Art

One of the main attractions in Melbourne is the various types of street art that can be found scattered across the city. People say it's one of the world's biggest, and free, living art exhibitions, giving Melbourne a really interesting vibe that other cities have struggled to match. I think the mix of random architectural styles with the graffiti and street art creates for a vibe that is edgy but still quite contemporary.

The most famous area to explore in Melbourne is Hosier Lane, which is directly opposite Flinders Street (the central station in Melbourne) and is basically a cobblestoned alleyway with different type of art plastered all over the walls. You can spend a long time here just looking, but you will be met with hundreds of other tourists too! Good luck getting pictures without people haha I tried my best but ended up giving up as it was a busy day in this area and there were many individuals taking selfies.

I personally captured a few random types of art throughout the city. One that I tried to find on my own was the famous Keith Haring mural in Collingwood. This has been part of the Arts Victoria's project to restore the mural and bring back the vibrant colours. I think they've done a great job as I know it has been defaced many times over the years, hopefully it can be kept in a nicer condition from now on. I was thinking how great it would be to see this everyday and feel inspired to think creatively and out of the box, Haring certainly did that throughout his career as an artist! Hopefully you like a few of the ones I picked out and you will explore for yourself when you are in the city. Enjoy.

Neat captures @eon. I’m always amazed at how good the artists draw and paint the street graffiti. Sure does brighten up the area.

Thanks for your comment! Melbourne has an eclectic mix! :)

I loved the street art in Melbourne when I was there, so many amazing artworks!

I agree! There's an interesting selection. Thanks for your comment.

It is interesting how graffiti artists and street artists vary from town to town, I like the style and colors they use in Melbourne:)

Yeah. There are so many different types. It's great to see such creativity.

Thanks for the write up. Normally, I just walk past without noticing street art. That tiger is amazing!

Yeah. I tend to focus more when I have a camera with me. So strange!

I love the tiger with a lamp the most :D

We have a lot of street art here in Zagreb. We also have an alley with a long wall of street art here and one of the main train routes through the city leads right next to it :)

That's great. I've never been to Zagreb but would love to visit one day! Thanks for taking time to comment :)

It's been many years since I visited Melbourne but I'll definitely check out the street art when I visit. Thanks for sharing your photos so I can see some while sitting here in Brisbane.

Yeah, it's worth it if you get time. Thanks for commenting :)
