Exploring Finland - Walking Around Helsinki

When I take trips around Europe I often get carried away photographing only the locations that I set out to visit on my itinerary. For example, if I want to visit somewhere and there is unique architecture or art I tend to document these with my camera and soak in the city with my own eyes. I’m not prejudice against the city as such, but I think it’s a combination of the people and the busy feeling that persuades me to photograph calm and quiet spaces instead. I wouldn’t be a good street photographer, that’s for sure! haha

On my trip to Helsinki I took my film camera so I was limited to what photos I could actually capture. If you have shot film before you know that feeling of being very select with your photography and trying to capture the essential. They don’t always turn out how you want, but in my opinion the ones that do cannot be matched by digital. I carried another camera in the city and here are a few pictures that I took with it. They are not the best but offer a glimpse around the city and some islands that I visited nearby.

Helsinki is an amazing city and is most recognisable for the central train station and the trams that run around this area. The streets are very unique as they all have the tram lines running down them, making it quite a spectacle in the evening when the light drops in the evening. It was interesting when I went because it never truly got dark in the evening, even when sleeping you could still see light coming through your window. I guess that’s normal for those that are Finnish! haha Anyway, I hope you enjoy this small selection from my trip below.

Helsinki is a really beautiful place and I'm sure a trip to this side of the world would be just perfect no matter what the season is.
A walk around this place would definitely clear your mind and fill your 'batteries' making you want to see more and more! :)
Thanks for sharing, I have Helsinki on my bucket list and I can't wait to see it one day too :D

I hope you can see it in the future! Helsinki is especially nice. The best scenery was near the water and in the more suburban areas :)

It always amazes me how beautiful cities are built in places with complicated weather conditions, countries like Finland and Iceland are what comes to my mind when I think of the modern quality of life. Really fantastic.

Thanks for sharing!

Yeah, there are some innovations in this regard. Thanks for taking your time to comment.

Very nice pictures! I love how blue the sky is and how green the grass and leaves are! Wow! My parents have been to Finland a few times for business, so I had to check out this post. Nice work! :)

Oh really? That's cool to know. Finland is not a popular destination but I found it really interesting. I hope you can go one day too :)

Nice - yeah, my dad worked for an oil company. They used to build the big off shore platforms (called spars) in massive steel yards in Finland. It always looked like a nice place to go.

Great photos. Upvote for you :)

Thanks so much!
