The @mitneb Curation Trail Project Daily Report - Mystery Trip Vacation Edition, Day 4
I'll be curating as usual, but the @mitneb Curation Trail Project Daily Reports will be put on hold while I am on a mystery trip with two of my sisters.
Mystery Trip Vacation???
"What is a mystery trip vacation?" you ask.
It's when someone takes you on a trip, but doesn't tell you where you are going. That's what has happened to me!
My sisters planned an all expenses paid vacation for me. How nice is that!
Day 4 Adventures
We spent the night last night at my cousin's house in the Ocean View Estates subdivision. The whole subdivision is laid out on an old lava flow from the Alika cone. At 7,834 feet elevation their house has a great view of the ocean.
We had a delicious breakfast of banana stuff taro bread french toast with coconut syrup and maple syrup, bacon and coffee.
Then, at 0645 hours we headed out to Kealakekua Bay where we rented some kayaks, and paddled out to Captain James Cook Monument for more snorkeling. I have some pictures which I will be uploading tomorrow because I don't have time to do it before our plane takes off.
We saw a mongoose on the way to the snorkeling site.

After we finishd snorkeling we grabbed a quick Pad Thai lunch, and then went to see the Royal Summer Palace. Pictures of the inside were not allowed, but here is the outside.
And here is the church across the street that was built at the same time, and has not been covered in stucco.
After touring the palace we did some shopping.
Finally, dinner was so good at the Big Island Grill the first night that we went back again. I had the teriyaki chicken, Hawaiian macaroni salad and rice (no katsu chicken this time.)
We are now sitting at the airport waiting for our four and a half hour flight to San Francisco where we will have a layover of a couple of hours, then on to Eugene, Oregon.
But the trip is not over yet. What will happen tomorrow? It's a mystery!

I love these write ups. Did you see a Humahumanukanukaapuaa? I have no idea how to spell that! Ha! So cool that your cousin lives there and you could stay at their house. Lovely looking food. The chicken looks so tasty!!!
