The @mitneb Curation Trail Project Daily Report - Mystery Trip Vacation Edition - Day 1
I'll be curating as usual, but the @mitneb Curation Trail Project Daily Reports will be put on hold while I am on a mystery trip with two of my sisters.
Mystery Trip Vacation???
"What is a mystery trip vacation?" you ask.
It's when someone takes you on a trip, but doesn't tell you where you are going. That's what has happened to me!
My sisters planned an all expenses paid vacation for me. How nice is that!
The lobby of our hotel in Portland, Oregon, where we met the day before leaving. I still have no idea where we are going for this vacation.
Starting with Thai food and some sushi at Thai Orchid in Portland.
After lunch we took a drive out to the Fish Hatchery and Bonneville Dam outside Portland.
And then back to Portland to Pix Patisserie for some amazing Tapas (I had the grilled octopus in olive oil), and a cup of hot drinking chocolate.
We left the hotel for the airport at 0400 hrs. I still didn't know where we were going.
Finally, once we were all in the plane...
The Big Island - Hawai'i
I'm thrilled! I have never been to Hawai'i.
Here's what it looked like as we passed over just before landing.

We found the farmer's market still open.
We bought some fruit for lunch tomorrow.
Did a little shopping, and found a rainbow dress.
Then we drove a few miles up the coast to watch manta rays feed. We were going to go out on the boat tour, but had heard that there were not many rays being spotted lately. We decided to save our money, and just go watch from the lookout point at the Sheraton Inn. We didn't see any rays, and it didn't sound like the people in the water saw any either.
Finally, dinner! Teriyaki chicken, Katsu chicken, rice, and potato and macaroni salad. It was delicious!
