Road Trip Europe 2017 - Part 4 - Magical Split, boat trip in the Adriatic

in #travel7 years ago

What a great start of the day enjoying a nice espresso and some cookies!!!

It was another great example of the quality of Croatian espresso. These people know how to make great coffee!

The plan of the day was to go to Split, have a walk in the city and eventually take a boat trip to the nearby bays and beaches. I decided to go by car from Kastel to Split, and leave the car on paid parking for about 10 kuna/hour. It was definitely a better deal, compared to Dubrovnik's tax, that was 40 kuna/hour!!! So about 11:00 in the morning we were on the city bay and went to pick a boat trip.
We eventually chose a trip for 34 euro a person, and it was supposed to be about three and a half hours. The initial time of the trip was scheduled at 14:30, so we had some free time to go for a walk in the old town of Split, which was about 1300 years old, and inside there were some Egyptian structures, which were said to be at least 3000 years old.

The beautiful Split bay!

After walking in the old town, we refreshed ourselves with a coffee and some beer. A great way to prepare for the boat trip, and to get a little bit more excited about everything. The day just turned to be a great experience!

Happy and refreshed, we headed towards the boat. From some distance we spotted our captain, who looked like Popeye the sailor, and was telling us some jokes all the time! And his mate served us some "Grapa", which was like grape brandy, very similar to Bulgarian's so called "rakia"! As we got away from the bay, I managed to make some great photos of the city, some boats and the coastline. After 40 minutes-like sailing, we took a rest on a very peaceful beach, where we were able to swim with snorkels around the rocky sea bottom. 30-minutes sail to our next stop - a beautiful beach, and after that we went back to the Split's bay, full of emotions and great memories.

After a long day, full of journeys and trips, the tiredness overtook us entirely, and the only thing, that was in our plans for the evening was to go and jump into the comfortable bed in our "cave". It definitely was a day to remember and I'm happy we chose this boat trip.

Stay tuned for the next part of my Euro trim 2017. A lot more beautiful photos to come and to share with you!

Great photos! Was in Split last july, loved it, but just for one night... too many people, i hope it was more quiet when you were there. Hope that we'll see Sibenik in your roadtrip :)

No Sibenik this year... From split I went to Zagreb, also very beautiful! Indeed there were a lot of tourists in Split, but I wax expecting maybe even more, so I liked it. Thank you for the comment!
