Road Trip Europe 2017 - Part 2 - The Ancient Dubrovnik

in #travel7 years ago

So my first target of the trip was Dubrovnik - the magnificent old city. And it's not, because the city is one of the filming spots of Game of Thrones. I wanted to go there, because of the beautiful scenery around, and the crystal waters of the Adriatic.

So after the first night it was time for some coffee and breakfast. And I assure you... Croatia has the best coffee ever! I drank coffee from many different places, and it was always very cheap(about 1$ a piece) and of great quality! If you have a chance to go to Croatia, make sure to drink at least one coffee.

And right after the coffee it was time to leave for Dubrovnik. We wanted to go early, in order to avoid the big rush of the tourists. Going by bus was the perfect choice, because in this time of the year the cheapest parking in Dubrovnik costs about 40 kuna/hour, which is roughly 6,5$ an hour!!! And the bus for the two of us was about 70 kuna to go and come back to our place.

So... We got the bus and soon spotted the island next to Dubrovnik, and the old city itself.

We stepped out of the bus and immediately felt the spirit of Dubrovnik. A lot of traditional houses, all of them preserved very well. And almost everywhere there are guest room and guest houses for all the interested tourists. The atmosphere of the city is really great, and the old town has even a better outlook. Luckily we were in Dubrovnik about 10:00 in the morning, so there weren't much tourists at all. This allowed us to inspect the small streets, and the bigger ones in a very peaceful way. We even took one stone staircase to the rocks beneath the city walls, where took some great photos of the Adriatic sea.

Just look how polished the stones look. They seem wet!

Some traditional windows! Even the new ones look the same way.

Right after exploring the old town, we went down some rocks to swim in the Adriatic. It was our first touch to the sea and it was really, really salty! Of course this helped us a lot with the swimming, but from time to time it was a bit unpleasant, when the water got into our eyes. Anyway, swimming in the Adriatic was absolutely great!

The day slowly faded away and sooner or later we had to leave for Cupari again. Finding the right bus stop was maybe the hardest task during the whole day, but eventually we found it, and it was just next to the Dubrovnik's lift. It was time to have some rest and prepare to leave for Split the next morning. A brief dinner and some Croatian beer, after which we found ourselves quickly into the bed.
