Nature Travel #8 | Two days Boat trip from Thailand to Laos - Part 1

in #travel7 years ago

We decided to go to Laos, but me and my father had no idea of how. Many people that we met told us that the two days boat trip to Luang Prabang the ancient capital of Laos was very nice, so the boat trip it is.

Since it is a two days travel this is day one, I am going to tell you my experience and at the end you will know if this is the kind of trip that you will do if you go to Laos.

In fact it was a three days trip, the first day we were only in a van where we went from Chiang Mai to the frontier where the Mekong River is. After 8 hours in the van we arrive at the Mekong River and we slept just at the riverside, in a little lodging house. After a good night sleep and some new friends, that were going to make the same travel than us, we leave the next morning to the frontier.

After all the paperwork and the waiting for the visa we arrive at the docks where we were taking the boat. Me and everybody didn't know much how was going to be the travel, luckily for us a woman who was responsible for the tickets explain us how was it going to be. So this is the way we did it, first day we leave from Chiang Kong and after 5 hours in the boat we arrive in a small riverside village Pag Beng, to sleep. The next day we leave early in the morning and after 6 hours in the boat we arrive in Luang Prabang. Food and water are not provided, but you can buy them in or before the boat, I recommend before.

Our Boat was not the most comfortable, but I was not there for the comfort. Let me tell you a big advice, if you ever go on a boat like this NEVER ARRIVE LATE. That's because the seats in the front will already be taken, so you are forced to be in the back where there is the most unsupportable loud noise of the motor.

If you go on a trip like this for the view and nature, you will get it, or if you are going for the sociable part, you get it too. If you know this you will never get bored, some people told me that the view was the same all the time and they get tired of it after some time, I don't.
