Steemit BnB

Booking your next vacation through Steemit BnB would be so amazing, and my dream is to one day host fellow Steemians from near and far here at Lily’s Cottage Durban West and getting paid in SBD!

Of course Steemit BnB or perhaps SteemBnB, does not exist at this point!

I read a post that @papa-pepper wrote a while back, but as he said, it was just a passing thought.

I do believe this dream could become a reality!

But it will take a ton of hard work and this noob writing to you has no idea just how to make it work here on this platform.
I will have to hijack my son @deanoza, lock him up in Lily’s Cottage with his PC, as he has the know-how as a developer, but does not have the time! So look over your shoulder all the time @deanoza as this Mama may just have her henchmen on your tail one of these days!

But seriously, back to hosting, if you have a love of people and enjoy hosting, running a bnb is the most awesome job. I am sorry we only started this in our Autumn years, but as @therneau remarked, we probably were not ready for that earlier.

As an aside, I will tell you what set the scene for the birth of our quaint Lily’s Cottage Durban West.

I always joke about how I had to break my ankle after twisting it & flying off into Nowhere Land on a loose brick, to not only get brand new paved garden paths, a new driveway but also a new new kitchen to boot :):)

And yes, I suffered to get all of this; excruciating pain was my companion, a cast for 4 weeks, then a moon boot another 4 weeks, but boy oh boy, it paid off in the end :):)

So all that pain and months of work with retaining walls, stormwater system, paving and eventually a new kitchen, was well worth it. Hubby being a civil engineer and a perfectionist ensured things were done to perfection, well almost as he says, but to my eyes perfect!
We were extremely fortunate to find excellent craftsmen.

With retirement looming and both hubby and I not wanting to sit around and do nothing, we listed our empty cottage on Airbnb, the best decision we ever made.
Lily’s Cottage has blossomed into a popular stopover for holiday makers, business guests, sportsmen and more.

Airbnb sent us some amazing guests from all over the world, as mentioned in my previous posts.

We had some funny incidents; a guest who lived nearby made this her hideout as family who visit each year for their ‘holiday by the sea’, mess up her house without lifting a finger! She told them she was going on a church conference, locked up her house and came to us for a tranquil break away :)

Then the 4 young guys technicians from Cape Town, one by one discovered they each had a sister living in and around Durban, and do we mind if they visit :) Of course we had to gently put a stop to the sisters arriving day after day!

Our Swedish guests’ tiny 5 year old managed to scoff 7 crumpets (pancakes) in one sitting and was absolutely stuffed for the rest of the day. We serve crumpets on Sundays and made sure he got his own platter of 7 crumpets everytime thereafter! They stayed for 2 months, and really crept into our hearts!

Of course we know by now when it’s only girls or only boys, there’s going to be fun and games and noise! So we hosted our first…and last…bachelorette party…needless to say there was a lot of giggling and laughing and singing and more!

Then another time, guests arrived and said they had a problem; instead of only the 4 guests that booked, 8 peeled out of the large SUV. It was the day before Christmas, no space anywhere in town, so we had to make a plan. Fortunately the cottage is spacious, and they were lovely guests.

All in all, Airbnb’ing has been a fabulous experience for us, we are now listed on many other sites, but the idea of a SteemBnB really appeals to me, so if anyone reading this has any bright ideas, please tell me about it!
