Hanoi Attractions: #15 Ho Chi Minh Museum

The Ho Chi Minh Museum is located at 19 Ngach 158/19 Ngoc Ha, Doi Can, in the Ba Dinh area of the city. It is of course dedicated to the late great Vietnamese president Ho Chi Minh, who led the country in its revolutionary struggle against foreign powers. Built in the 1990s, it is one of the most interesting museums in Hanoi and indeed the country. The museum forms part of the Ho Chi Minh complex and can be combined with a visit to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Ba Dinh Square, the One-pillar Pagoda, and the War Memorial.

The whole museum is dedicated to and tells the story of the great man’s life, in 8 chronological areas. The first one, from 1890 to 1910 is modelled upon his upbringing, hometown and youth. The 2nd area tells of the next ten years, and his travels around the world in search of a solution to the country’s colonialism. Areas 3, 4 and 5 cover the years between 1920 and1945. These tell how Ho Chi Minh translated the beliefs of Marxism and Leninism and founded the Vietnamese Communist party, whilst at the same time striving for national independence. In areas 6, 7 and 8 the years of 1945 to 1969, are covered. This covered his achievements right up to his death in 1969.

The museum contains a wonderful collection of artefacts, miniatures and the many gifts he received both nationally and internationally. The descriptions are written in English and French and guided tours are available upon request.
