The Vietnam Museum of Revolution is among the best museum attractions in Hanoi, Vietnam. It is located in the Tong Dan area of Vietnam’s capital city and was established in August 1959. It is housed in the two storey French colonial built former Trade Department of Vietnam. This is a well designed museum and has become a very successful attraction in Hanoi. The 30 galleries contain more than 40,000 exhibits.

Vietnam Museum of Revolution, a fascinating Hanoi attraction

The Building itself would qualify as as one of the great attractions in Hanoi in it’s own right. It is a wonderful French colonial structure with an arched central section over the large front entrance and symmetrical windows running out over two floors on each side. Painted in the usual cream colours that are well associated with buildings in Vietnam, it cuts a fine figure in downtown Hanoi.

The Vietnam Museum of Revolution tells the fascinating stories of: the National liberation movements of the Vietnamese people against French forces before the establishment of the Vietnamese Communist Party in 1930; The National independence struggle of the Vietnamese led by the Communist Party 1930 to 1975; and also the social interesting development of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam between the years of 1976 and 1994.

Weapons and flags used by revolutionaries at the sharp end of conflicts are displayed in glass showcases. There are good examples of those marvellous propaganda posters and everyday utensils used by Vietnamese peasants. Uncle Ho is well represented of course with statues of the great man as a scholar and a statesmen. Other revolutionary leaders such as Tran Phy are of course also celebrated.

This is an interesting museum and a worthy player in the list of the best attractions in Hanoi. It is well worth a visit and its place adjacent to The Hanoi Opera House means you can visit two great attractions in Hanoi at the same time.
