#2 Travel Tips: The Ultimate 5 Budget Travel Hacks that you need in your life!

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Hello you, proud steemians!! Hope you're doing great~

We all know that travel could be a pain in the ass sometimes because of the expenses that we are going to bare after the exciting and fun activities during the trip. But there's always cures to the problem. As the old proverb says: "Everything has a solution, if you have the will, then it will."

So, here are my top composed solutions to your problems~

IMG_4892.JPG

1. Flights Price Comparison Apps & Websites

Flights ticket often contributed the highest weightage in our expenses chart. A round ticket to Europe or even to Japan could have simply cost us a fortune if we aren't wise enough to plan ahead.

Just in case if you're thinking that budget airlines should do the job for you, then you're WRONG! They aren’t always the cheapest just because they advertised that way.

Skyscanner & Google Flights are my absolutely to-go websites that literally save my wallet drown in blood and tears. These websites search across airlines at the same time giving you the capabilities to chose your desired filters eg: time, dates, price range and even the options to choose a full or a budget carrier.

These are the list of recommended options:

  • Skyscanner
  • Google Flights
  • Expedia
  • KAYAK

Despite the crazy amount of apps and websites to choose on the internet. These are the few that I favour the most due to the simplicity and direct me precisely to what I want.

2. Signing Up for Airlines Newsletter

What are you speaking?! Newsletter? It's going to be crazy lots of spam in my mailbox!!!
Well, that's true but think twice, some spamming leads to a great advantage, especially on your wallet. Some sacrifice should be well-worthy I assume ;)

Yes, I am speaking about the newsletter. Despite it being super annoying sometimes in your email, but, you can always be smart to have open a new email address or use a junk email to receive it so that it doesn't disturb your main account for work.

Often we over-looked on the newsletter because of its nature about marketing. But, Special Promos are always there for first-hand people like you who have subscribed to their newsletter.

Taking AirAsia as an example, their big sales day are crazy due to the extremely high demand. But, if you're subscribed to it and as a member. You always have the privilege and priority to enter the website ahead to purchase the cheapest flight ticket and having the priority to choose your seats before anyone else.

Isn't that worth it??

3. Accommodation

Without the need for further explanations, I guess everybody should already know that accommodation is going to be the second-ranked highest expenses of a trip. Hotels can be expensive because of the demands and it's a must for everyone. Except that you're planning on a road trip and doing some wild campings.

Accommodation is very versatile and diverse depending on a person likings, ranging from the desired location eg: beach hotels, central location or luxury villas. But accommodation is something that can be done differently to help you save a great fraction of the cost for some nice lunches and dinners.

So, let's dive into it!!
What I am speaking is, of course, using hotels comparison apps like:

  • Hotelscombined
  • Trivago
  • Google Comparison

These apps will help you to compare every hotel at different rates offering on their websites which includes of booking.com, hostelworld, Agoda and etc..

Also, if you're not fond of hotels, AirBnb is definitely a wise choice!!
These are some of the lists I accumulated for Breakfast and Bed related services:

  • Fun Taiwan Bnb for Taiwan
  • HomeAway specially for (South Korea)
  • BnBHero for (South Korea)

*Tips: Sometimes, the official website for luxury hotels does have a better deal than the host websites like booking.com because they are able to provide special promos in term of cashback or vouchers.

4. Local Transportations

Transportations, in general, could be pretty painful for your wallet too if you're not familiar with the place and some local drivers might cut you off knowing you're a tourist. What's a better alternative must be using the local public transportation like buses, MRT, subways and trams.

If you're a tourist, maximize the benefit by getting a tourist pass which often you can get it at the airport. With the passes you can basically live like a local, assessing to all sort of transportations with a way cheaper prices and even have the access to the free internet! Isn't that cool? :D

Travel Like A Local.Use public transports in major cities which have already had super convenient rail like in Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Taiwan, Japan, UK and Singapore. These cities very much rely on public transports and getting around is like a piece of cake. But, instead of getting a single trip ticket. Get their local transportation card and reload it! Save papers & convenient.

Famous passes in different countries:

  • EzLink card MRT & Busses (Singapore)
  • Oyster card Subway (UK)
  • Easy Card MRT, Busses, Bicycle, Convenient Store (Taiwan)
  • Touch & Go -KTM, LRT, Buses (Malaysia)

5. Booking of Activities in Advance

This down to the final hack, which is also the most important one!

We often neglected this point due to the laziness to do research and being overconfident about the availability of tickets for the activities. But, ended up with disappointments or having to pay way more than booking in advance.

Booking in advance not only helped you to save the money but also giving you an assurance and security before you travel. Knowing the host of the activities and the background is more important than anything else before you're committing to it.

So, these are some of the recommendations that can help you out!

  • Klook.com
  • KKday
  • Viator
  • Official websites of the attraction (depending on where you go)

I am pretty sure, with a little research done ahead, it's going to help you smoothen out everything. Instead of being frustrated and crying over the mistakes while travelling, why not spend some time on planning ahead to make your travels a wonderful and magical moment? :)

Conclusion

Before having fun, there are always preparations that have to be made. With great research and perseverance, success is by your hand. These are mostly the mistakes I've made before and I have learned so much from it and I am sharing it all with you because I care. I really hope this article will help you to reduce the mistakes that I made before.

Cheers~

I'll keep this in mind. I've always wanted to travel abroad. But first things first.. I need to get my passport though I think that will take some time with all the issue in getting an appointment. :( Thanks for the headstart!

I hope this will help you out to plan your travel wisely especially if you're not too familiar with it. Just drop me a dm on discord if you need extra help. I am open for help :))

That's great! Thanks a lot :D

Haha, It's true that budget airlines most definitely can be even more expensive than the normal option. They add up a lot of hidden payments as you are buying the tickets...

We all know that their marketing definitely has some real trick. If we aren't careful enough, we often fell into their traps. But to say so, they are for sure have cheaper tickets. After all, you pay what you get, don't expect too much from low-cost airlines. Thank you for dropping by :)

Nice guide @explorernations, I too came across klook before my Taiwan trip haha, got to save a bit from buying tickets up Taipei 101.

Will be sending this up to curate 😊 hopefully it passes as well.

Exactly. I used Klook for safari tour in Dubai and it's totally worth it. I saved so much from buying there than any other websites.

Thank you so much for the support :D Let's just see how it goes..

Haha save money and save times to avoid queues as well 😬

Exactly! Queues!! I hate it the most. Hours and hours of queuing is a tremendous waste of time. "Time is money"

Some great tips here. I know travel can be so costly, but its the hidden and unexpected expenses that can hurt the most. So having tips and hacks to help out, and to know where to look for them is helpful.

Thank you so much for the compliment. It's indeed true, those hidden costs are dangerous if we haven't given enough precautions to it. I hope it will be able to reach out more people so that they can spend all the extras saving on something that worth paying attention more! :D Thank you for dropping by :)

Hey! New to Steemit and loved this post! We are going to be travelling around europe for 4 months over summer so need all the tips we can get. We have decked out our van so we can sleep in it. Any tips on eating cheap while travelling would be appreciated! 😊😊😊

First of all! Welcome on board!! Glad to have you on steemit, I've checked out your profile, I would suggest you to introduce yourself in a post to get more people to know about you and what you do. This will open up more followers and reach out more people about your stories.

That really sounds like an adventure you're going to have!! Summer is definitely the perfect time where you want to be in Europe but also please do watch out over the crowd as you know, no one wants to be left out during the perfect weather. But I am pretty sure you'll make the best out of it :)

Eating in Europe, in general, is pretty expensive if you're considering to be eating out at a restaurant every day. I would really suggest getting local produce in supermarket. Fresh ingredients are really cheap in Europe especially when have the chance to visit the local market. It's perfect to get your breakfast & lunch set. While, to save on cost, try to get takeouts like doner kebab or sandwiches are the best options if you do not have a kitchen. Otherwise, home cooking is ideal!

Anyway, if you have more questions, drop me a dm at discord, I'll try to answer them :)
Hope you have a blast here :))

Thanks!! Yep ive been working on my first post and just having a look around steemit
