Evolved08gsr's Travel Life - Airline Complications
Imagine this situation:
- You boarded the plane on-time
- You arrived to your seat without someone else being there
- You had space in the over-head bin for your luggage
- The plane left on-time
- The plane landed safely and on-time
You're doing awesome, right!?!
Until ... it's finally your turn to get off the plane ...
... and you find out that your luggage is LOCKED in the over-head bin ... or at least that's what you think at first. The flight attendant must have locked the bin (because for some reason there's a lock on the bin and if it's not opening easily, it must be locked, right?). You and the two other passengers with luggage in that bin have all come to the same conclusion after each failing to open the bin.
The flight attendant comes by and casually says "The bin isn't locked...", and also fails to successfully open the over-head bin. At this point, the plane is empty aside from your fellow travelers with trapped luggage and the flight crew.
As the flight crew decides that they need maintenance to come and assist (because a broken over-head bin means that the plane will no longer be fit for travel, and the crew doesn't want to be responsible for that!).. A cavalier maintenance technician randomly boards the plane and is hailed by the flight crew. After each of us described the situation to the tech, he makes several failed attempts at opening the over-head bin and finally decides that he needs help.
The maintenance tech exits the plane and comes back with a colleague, this time with a screwdriver! After a bit of tugging, grunting and what sounded like breaking the bin's locking mechanism, the bin finally opened and we were able to retrieve our luggage. Also, the bin was fully intact after further investigation, so all was well.
