Guide to Las Vegas and My Experiences (Most expensive restaurant I’ve been to, over $2000 bill! Review of hotels, restaurants, shows, etc.)

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

Las Vegas, a city that never sleeps. Some people might think that it is a place only for grown ups, but the truth is that any person at any age will find this city exciting. Las Vegas provides huge variety of shows, fun attractions, hotels, restaurants, clubs/bars, museums, casinos, spas and shopping.

Honestly, I don’t remember how many times I’ve been to this city, maybe 20 or even 30 times. There was a time when I was going there every month and I was not even a grown up! I would go to various shows and do lots of shopping with my mother. Now, I usually go there for clubbing and overeating! But I'm really hoping to go there ones just for the spa experience, some light dining, couple shows, and no alcohol! I know people that actually did that and they loved it!

Here are some of the things I want to share with you…

Hotels + Spas

Most of the hotels in Vegas are with casinos and smoking ones, but there are several ones that are considered as Spa hotels (no casino and free-smoke building). I personally stayed at two of these hotels, Mandarin Oriental and Vdara. I personally enjoy them more than regular ones with casinos because of the cleanliness and quietness.

Mandarin Oriental is considered as an expensive hotel. The whole hotel smells with spa fragrances. If you have allergies, this might be not an option for you. Also, at this hotel there are some nice restaurants.

Vrada is one of the newest hotels in Vegas. It is affordable, but it is not cheap either. They have huge suites and very cool lofts with own kitchen, dining room and living area.

Me enjoying bath time with a view of Las Vegas Strip at Vdara hotel.

Hotels + Casinos

I’ve stayed at many hotels that have casinos and I have to say they are fun! They have a lot more restaurants and bars than at spa hotels, but in the whole hotel you can smell cigarette smoke (not too bad, but if you don’t smoke you might feel it).

I like Aria, Cosmopolitan and Wynn hotels, but I would also try SLS hotel because I know they have good restaurants and very cool interior.

Cosmopolitan Hotel has a unique lobby and very nice suites. They even have suites with balconies, which is a very rare thing.

Restaurants and Buffets

Las Vegas has an exceptional food! And why wouldn't they have that, when so many restaurants have to compete against each other. Also, Las Vegas has one of the most expensive restaurants in the world. Every restaurant is slightly more expensive than in any other big city.
So, expect to spend money on food.

I really don’t remember all of the restaurants I’ve been too, but here some of the best ones I remember.

Guy Savoy at Caesars Palace -$$$$

Probably the most expensive restaurant I’ve been to in my whole life. I went there with a lady I used to work with, so I didn’t pay, but I know she spent more than $2000 for our dinner for two of us. The food was pretty and tasty! Dishes are very small. I thought they had the freshest Foie gras and the way it was cooked was great . Foie gras melted in my mouth! Like at many expensive restaurants, they brought the meat to the table, so we could see and approve it for cooking and later the chef went to the kitchen and cooked it.
If you decide to try this place, expect to pay at least 200$ per person, but you will be very hungry after it. To have a normal meal will cost you around $500. Also, this place is very quiet, so it might be a little bit boring if you go with a person that doesn’t want to talk too much (that’s how I felt!).

STK - $$$$

STKs are always fun. I’ve been to many of them around USA, but in Las Vegas only twice. I know it is a steakhouse, but honestly I’ve tried a better steak at other places, but their butter lobster is amazing! They have great appetizers and very fun environment! They have a DJ playing loud music and the lighting is dimmed. It is like eating at the club!

Mastro’s Ocean Club - $$$$

Great steaks and great soufflés! Actually, everything is delicious here and you won’t leave with an empty stomach.

Bacchanal Buffet at Caesar Palace - $$$
I thought this was a really good buffet! A lot of options and not worse than at regular restaurants. Lunch is $60, Dinner is $70, and +$15 per person for unlimited alcohol drinks.
To be honest, I love buffets because you spend less than you actually eat and drink, but I also hate it because I always overeat!

Buffet at Aria -$$
This is decent buffet for a lower price. Food was good, but service could have been better. It was easier for me just to move my empty plates to another table than wait for our waiter.
Brunch $29-$33 (weekdays, Sat & Sun), and dinner $39-$44. It is $20 total for 2 people if you want to have unlimited alcohol drinks. I came here right after airport and I did not regret it! Got drunk and full :)

Clubs / Lounges/ Bars

I’ve been to Tao , Pure and some other ones couple times. To be honestly, I’m more of a restaurant or lounge person than clubs. I thought Tao was a very fun club, but I would still better go to a lounge.

Hyde at Bellagio - $$$
Actually I never got a table here, but I have seen it and I’ve been to other Hydes in Los Angeles. They are fun! They have an entrance fee after 10 am, so come earlier.

Bond at Cosmopolitan - $$$
I’ve been here twice and I think this is the best bar in Las Vegas. Decent prices for drinks and actually tasty drinks! No cover charge! Bar/ lounge looks like a club because it has a live Dj and dancers. I also like their interior a lot.

Sugar Factory - $$
This is actually a candy store / bar. You can buy a huge drink to go and just leave the shop with it and walk around the strip. That's what I did!

Shows

Las Vegas is the place to see great shows! All of them are good, but I would really recommend Le Reve , KA and The Beatles LOVE by Cirque du Soleil.

Le Reve - The Dream

Very cool show on the water. I’ve seen it 3 times.

The Beatles LOVE by Cirque du Soleil

I’ve been to many Cirque du Soleil shows, but I think this one was very eye candy show, very colorful! It was more of a dancing show than tricks.

(this trailer is pretty lame thought, it doesn’t show the best parts of the show)

KA by Cirque du Soleil

I think this is one of my favorite ones by Cirque du Soleil and I’ve seen 7 or 8 of them.

Attractions

Dig This

This is one very unique attraction in Vegas! For $250 for 90 minutes you can push, pull and rip your way to excitement on their huge D5G Bulldozer or on their massive 315C Excavator. You can dig gigantic trenches, stack 2,000 pound tires and play “Bucket Basketball”, and you don’t have to be a grown up to do this! Also, for $650 you can crush a car with their 30,000 lb Caterpillar excavator. Kind of an expensive attraction, but sounds fun.

Sky Jump

For $120 you can do an open-air leap from 829 feet tower. It will be from 108th floor of the Stratosphere tower, descending about 40 miles per hour. This is something I would like to try.
