Twilight in Forks, Washington

It's All Saints Day, what better time to post the vampiric portion of our time in Forks ;-)

For the past several posts I've been showing you all of the reasons why you might want to visit the beautiful coastal town of Forks, Washington, from it's wild and spectacular beaches to the primitive rain forest and tall pines that surround them.

But there is another reason people have flocked to this little town located as far west and north as you can go in the US-- this happens to be the setting for the book and movie sensation of the Twilight series.

(Above is the actual truck Bella used in the movie, below is the replica of the one from the books.)

For Twilight fans Forks and La Push will always bring vampires, werewolves, and romance to mind. And it became clear why Stephanie used these locations when we were there- not only is it the rainiest place in the US, it's forests are so dense that the sunlight doesn't reach in very far, leaving the impression of the deepest, darkest woods imaginable.

(This cafe, which stands across the street from the above street sign, apparently marks the actual border of the town of Forks and the Quillette Reservation known as La Push.)

(It's also located just a few minutes from the Mora campground where we stayed during our time here. The food is decent and they have a little convenience store attached to it which saves the ten minute drive to town.)

And of course Forks has monopolized on the story a bit, with stores selling merchandise which thrilled my daughter...

...and even displaying one of the outfits warn by Jacob Black (played by Taylor Lautner) in the films.

Is anything more satisfying than granting a child's long time wish?

We surprised her with this destination, she had no idea we were going to the setting of one of her favorite movie series until we were on the road.

Since this was likely to be her last family trip- well, long roadtrip at least- as she was leaving the nest shortly after, we wanted to make sure it was an epic vacation to remember always...

...and we met that mark and then some!

I have never understood all the Twilight fandom, but got into it quite a bit during its heyday. I'm happy that Zoey got the chance to share this with the fam! Nothing like an awesome sendoff to, well... send you off!

Ha, yeah I really enjoyed the book series and the first movie, and I definitely didn't hate the rest of them like so many others, maybe because they were mother/daughter dates :) She didn't choose a 'team', she's never liked picking favorites- She wouldn't pick a favorite 1D member, or a favorite amongst the Supernatural cast either :)

My mom used to take my sister to those too! I never figured it to be a global bonding experience haha!

Such a great present to give your daughter, seeing the towns from the series and all that goes with it. I'm sure she'll never forget the trip, on all scales. Family vacations are still such strong memories of my youthful days, and just because we experience them when a bit older, they're still such strong memories. After all, we're just kids in older, bigger bodies.

One of the most amazing things I noticed when first hitting that area years ago, was the SMELL. Of all the detritus and rot in those forests. It is a very pleasant, powerful smell, and when it hits again today, it almost makes me dizzy. Thanks for more visits from your adventure. Cheers

we're just kids in older, bigger bodies Hahaha, that should be my slogan! So true, and you're absolutely right, there is a very distinct smell, one you can only understand if you've sat on a log gone soft or laid in a bed of moss with your nose nearly touching old, wet leaves.

Thanks for checking these out!

I love the vampire-threatometer!

Ha, yes, I got a big kick out of that one too! If only the kids were younger we could have really played it up- we always do spooky stories around the campfire, and that was the ideal place for such things :)

It certainly is! Now they are all growed up though. Which is awesome in itself. At least you can get some sleep :OD

It is pretty awesome, but childhood offers such magic, Santa and Christmas morning, The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, belief in things unseen- it's a trade off, there are pros and cons to both :)

Hehe, that is very true after all last night I was out with the little lady trick or treating!

Dunno about vampires, but I'd bet there's some large footprints in that forest! It looks like it should be a good sasquach incubator. Who knows what else.
