Hildesheim - A German city with history - travel with Detlev
Hildesheim - in the middle of Germany
The city and the new done but old looking market place. I did this pictures in November 2017 during a short visit on a business trip.
Knochenhaueramtshaus
The Butchers' Guild Hall is called in German language the „Knochenhaueramtshaus“. This is a half-timbered house in Hildesheim in the federal state of Lower Saxony, in the north of Germany.
The Butchers' Guild Hall was originally built in the year 1529 in a Gothic style building. The Architect's name is unknown. The building was used in this time as a meeting place of the butchers' guild, which was a very wealthy and influential guild in Hildesheim in the Middle Ages. Read more at Wikipedia
Hildesheim and the bishop
Hildesheim is one of the oldest cities in Northern Germany. The city became the seat of the Bishopric of Hildesheim in 815. The settlement of the young city around the cathedral developed very quickly into a town and Hildesheim was awarded market rights by King Otto III in 983.

I did not only love the pictures in your post but loved, even more, your description of what we are actually looking at. So many people post just pictures with no description whatsoever. I loved how the old buildings are kind of assimilated together.
I actually visited Napoli 2 weeks ago and they did the same. Somehow they blended the old architecture with the new and it looks amazing just like here. :)
Great post, my friend. Thank you for sharing :)
Thanks for your lovely comment.
This is pushing me to do more posts like this on my many business trips.

I really like the stone streets in the downtown area of such cities. So beautiful and fun to wander in. I can just imagine when it's full of people as well, like markets and such?
Also, the first Butcher's guild hall looks quite interesting, the patterning is fun to look at.
Thanks. They build quite some years on the new guild hall but this creates a nice atmosphere at the market place.
I've been working on a list of places I want to visit and seeing these pictures makes me wonder if I should add Hildesheim. It's really beautiful! Thanks for sharing, Detlev!
The cities in that area had a hard time in WW2. But a lot places got rebuilt.
Very interesting history with fantastic architecture. I did wonder though, are the new buildings in the marketplace replacing old ones?
No, they got a remake with new material
Thanks for clarifying, I used to live in a market town in England and knew that typically they have houses/buildings joined all around the square and so did wonder :). Looking forward to seeing more posts like this
Pretty buildings. And I like that SteemitWorldMap! ☺
Yes, and after a few posts you see your own map with all the places you visited before. Love it
I really enjoyed visiting "Hiedelberg" a little more south. Although I have never been to Heildesheim you captured the style of the central place architecture for me. It looks like a quiet city. I'm gonna try Steemitworldmap.com the next time I post a place.
Ohh, yes - Heidelberg is a nice spot.
So schön.
ja, war auch ein schöner Morgen.....
Good to know a bit of history through those good photos, thanks for sharing.
Actually, some of this "old" buildings are less than 20 years old.
wow... That place must be lovely at Christmas, with the Christmas market full of stalls and people around!!!
It is a nice location for that kind of markets
