Travel | Exploring the Marble Mountains of Vietnam

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

During our motorcycle tour of the central coast of Vietnam, we stopped by for a hike up Marble Mountain. Along the way to the peak we came across many Buddhist and Hindu grottoes. If you are visiting Da Nang, Hội An, or any of the surrounding areas, I highly recommend you stop and pay the mountain side a visit. You won't regret it!

If you are unable to walk up the path to the temples, fear not, this mountain comes equip with a state of the art elevator! Since we had more than a few beers the night before, we thought it'd be prudent to walk. The first sculpture that really stood out to me was the wall of dragons.

Welcome to Marble Mountain

It seemed like everywhere we turned there was another beautiful statue! The magnitude of some of these sculptures was incredible.

As we explored the mountain, we were carried through limestone tunnels and small cave entrances that opened up into beautiful temples. Here's one that opened to a tight room with a large Buddha statue:

The most impressive cave is at the foot is at the center of the mountain. Walking down a long flight of stairs, you are transported to what can only be described as a wonder.

At the heart of the mountain

After we explored the belly of the mountain, we checked to see if it was possible to reach the heavens of the peak. This path is not always open to visitors, but today we were in luck.

I hope you enjoy my photos, but my true intention is for you to see it for yourself!
