Fishing in the Bahamas, What an Experience!
Can you say World Class Fishing? The Bahamas offers the thrilling, edge of your seat, big game fishing that anglers around the globe look for as well as the option to take your angling skills to a whole new level on the flats where you can bone fish with a fly.
When you fish in the Bahamas you have the benefit of the migratory fish that “run” through the area like clockwork … cruising by on the famous Gulf Stream. These Big Guys make for some adrenalin pumping action … like marlin, wahoo, tuna and so many more. Plus all the reef fish that call the waters of the Bahamas their permanent home.
What kind of action do you like when you pick up a rod and reel? You can have a boatload of fun right off of Bimini, the closest Bahamian Island to the US. Watch for sea birds and look for the water to “boil” with action and maybe you will be lucky enough to hook in to a school of dolphins. Catch the first one and leave it in the water while you and the rest of your fishing friends catch as many as you like … btw … I am one of those fishermen that believes you only keep what you can eat, so please practice catch and release.
Andros is great for bone fishing. Like to practice your fly fishing skills? Then Andros may be the place you want to be ... just wade through the flats and play with light tackle.
What about bill fish? Troll on over to Chub Cay and chances are you will get some action from one of these monsters! Marlin and other sailfish put up a heck of a fight and even though your muscles are screaming in pain you will be having the time of your life with a smile glued on to your face. Who will win … you or the fish? There is nothing on this planet like big game fishing, but remember to please release so others can play another day.
Grouper … wow … I once thought I had a VW Bus on the end of my line, LOL! Grouper love to find rocks or other underwater hidey holes to keep you on your toes. These tasty guys are a challenge to the best of seasoned anglers.
Do you like tuna sashimi? Try trolling over to the Exumas and see what jumps on your hook. Tuna are all over the Bahamas. My tip here is to troll a plain cedar plug. We tried all the fancy colorful lures until a sympathetic local gave us this tip and it works … this and along with a trolling speed of at least 14 knots per hour.
Now if all this isn’t enough fishing excitement what about deep dropping? The Atlantic Ocean is deep and you can find some awesome fish down 400 to 500 feet. Try one of the electric deep dropping reels and see what you pull up. Wouldn’t a plateful of snapper sound good for dinner?
Fishing the Bahamas is all of this and so much more. How about jumping on a plane or a boat and wandering on over the islands? Wouldn’t this be an incredible fishing trip for you and your Dad on Father’s Day … something that memories are made of!
