Borobudur Temple In Yogyakarta

Many people may only know famous cities in Indonesia like Bali or its capital state Jakarta. I went to a city called Yogyakarta In Indonesia that is relatively popular among domestic Indonesian travelers. The most popular tourist destination in Jogja (the shorter form of the city's name) would be the Borobudur temple. The Buddhist temple was constructed in the 9th century and has been maintained and reconstructed multiple times due to earthquakes and theft of the statues within the temple.

We went to Borobudur during a national holiday in Indonesia (we didn't know).

You will definitely feel overwhelmed by the pure majesty of the temple. The architecture of the temple is unique and beneath that, there are very detailed carvings of traditional Buddhist stories.

There are over a hundred of these carvings in the giant temple.

When you reached the top of the temple, you will see these bells like structures called stupas.

Stupas are structures where Buddhists can mediate inside peacefully. In Borobudur, there are statues of Buddha inside the Stupas.
