Philippines Ancestry Games - Laro ng Lahi
Tradition and culture has become one of our identity as a citizen of one’s country. My home land is rich in traditions, culture and beliefs. After many years of being influenced by spanish, american and even chinese, Philippines stand on its own merit.
One of the best being a filipino child was able to experience native traditional games of my home land, The Philippines.
We called it Ancestry games or Laro ng Lahi
Though December month is so over, it's a very special month in my home town (Dagupan city, Philippines).
It is the most important time of giving back to the community most especially Youth of Tomorrow, where my Aunt is the main organizer and in charge of the youth level.
These are just few and very fun games we play during celebration or fiestas:
Pabitin
It is the most popular game during fiesta. Children stands under a bamboo rack that contains goodies like chocolates, toys and candies. Children have to jump as high as they can to be able to get some goodies as the person in charge raises or lowers it thru strings.
Pukpok Palayok
A game where the child is blindfolded, spins around and listen to the direction from the audience to be able to hit the claypot full of goodies and coins. The audience though is set to pick the goodies as fast as they can.
Paper Dance
This consist of two players in one team. When the music stops, the team needs to find ways to hop on the laid paper in the dance floor, the paper gets folded and become tinier and tinier. The last team who is standing upright without falling down is the winner.
Sack Race
This is composed of two teams set to race using sack. each participants put their legs in a sack then hop around the designated area as fast as they can.
The team who completes the race will be the winner.
A game everyone can enjoy. I still love to play all this games, even i am not so young now :D…. and is always cater the best and loudest laughter one can have. These are just only few traditional party games in the Philippines, i will cover more for the next post.
What is your favorite traditional party game?

Sheryl
